Hiya - I'm in need some advice.
First fast was yesterday. Ate porridge (measured 30g) with milk for breakfast and mushroom risotto (260 cals) in the evening (7:30)
Drank about 2 litres mostly water with a couple of cups of peppermint tea.
    So stuck to it rigidly.

Felt a bit nauseous, cold and sleepy at 5:30, but biggest problem was migraine in the early hours. I don't think I was dehydrated - in fact my water % increased on the scales.
I am wondering whether this migraine was brought on by caffeine withdrawal.
I usually drink a lot of tea and diet coke (no coffee).

I would appreciate some advice as I would be unable to contiue with this if I get migraine twice a week.

If it is caffeine then I guess I can easily get round that by drinking coffee & tea.
I didn't see it in the book but I guess diet fizzy drinks are not allowed?

    Photogenic
I had a pepsi max one of my days last week, no one told me it's not allowed.

I can't see why it wouldn't be allowed. As far as I am aware, the only restrictions are on the total calories consumed on fast days.

It's be worth trying another fast day and including tea to see if that makes a difference. I reckon that enough semi-skim for 4 cups (about 150ml) is around 65 calories. Can you carve that many calories out of your 500?

FWIW I'm finding that I need to up the total amount I drink or I feel pretty rubbish. The answer seems to be to have a glass of water on hand all through the day.

    Hope you're feeling brighter today,

    Thanks for all the advice.
I like my tea sweet and milky, but if I'm allowed diet coke that will really help me loads.

So my advice for anyone prone to migraine is don't go cold turkey on caffeine if you usually drink it.

I didn't see anything in the book about banning fizzy drinks, but it was certainly not actively encouraged in the Michael Moseley book which mentions water, tea & coffee.
  • I have one diet Coke on a fast day with my main meal. :)

(I probably have 3 diet Cokes every normal day.)

I cut out coffee when I first started this diet and got a bad headache (not migraine) so now include it in my calorie allowance. I don't have sugar but do like a little milk in it. I weigh some semi skimmed milk at the start of the day and have been much better since. I also drink a lot of green tea as the water here has an unpleasant taste (and I was brought up in London) so don't drink it 'neat'.
Second fast day tomorrow, not sure what we will have but probably stuffed peppers for lunch and a chicken stir fry for dinner.
    Good luck everyone.
  • I find at least 2 cups of green tea means less headaches, someone on here said don't use boiling water, let the water cool slightly and works for me, tastes a lot less bitter
2p off is still 2p off!
  • Weigh in day today.
another 0.5lb gone which I am most surprised at as I have been out eating and drinking sat eve then had an unplanned indian takeaway on sunday.
Fast day yesterday - went ok stayed within 500cals but felt hungry in the night.
    Next fast day Thurs.
Good luck to all this week.

Hi Lisyloo - I had my fast day yesterday and drank lots of herbal tea - slept well but woke with a very muzzy headache ... First time - maybe it was caffeine withdrawal  as I drank lots of tea over the weekend

I may have to lessen my tea intake through the week - next fast day Friday :)
