Thankyou kind posters - I certainly don't want my metabolism to slow down or to feel like I'm too restricted so I'm thinking of increasing my cals to 1600 on a NFD which is the recommende amount to maintain my weight. Do you think this is too much though? Bit lost as to what to aim for...I'm 46, sedentary, 5ft 2 and 10st 2 btw. Any ideas most gratefully received!

I started off in August at a little less weight than you 9st 11lb approx I think. I am 5ft3-4in approx. I have been doing this diet fasting two non consecutive days a week (Tuesday and Friday). I want to get down to 8 and a half stone. But it depends how thin you want to be.

My weight is now 8st 10lb. So it is working. However, I am very small boned so I still don't look thin enough at this weight.

I am quite sedentary too but I haven't counted calories at all on non fast days and you are not supposed to on this diet. As long as you don't pig out you will lose weight with no more than 500 calores on two fast days.

Some days you will be hungrier than others. If you don't count calories on non fast days you will not be obsessed by what you are and are not eating. Just eat good food and enjoy it for 5 days a week. Trust the diet to do its job and eat what you want on non fast days. It has worked for me.

I also think you don't need to have a target weight. Just keep going until you like the way you look.

  • Thank you all for your support! It means a lot. :) I'm actually really looking forward to my fast days. I've overeaten so much that it'll be a relief not chewing for a while! Good luck for tomorrow's fasters. :)

I have just started this diet. I had a fast day on Saturday and will have another one tomorrow. Today I had breakfast, dinner and tea. I didn't feel that hungry at teatime but thought maybe I should eat something so I did.

Is it usual to not feel so hungry after a fast day? Last time I tried to diet I think I cut down too much on eating days (I was doing alternate day dieting then, but it was difficult to keep up and then it was Christmas) and I gave up completely. I seem to keep to a diet for so long and then I'm back to my usual pattern of eating.

Any advice would be welcome - I cannot keep yo-yo ing.

    :wave:Hi All

Well I did my two FD's on Monday & Friday last week. Did my 8 mile charity walk. Climb was more like it - one hill was vertical I swear. Really enjoyed it even if it was perishing cold & snowing at times (I'm a woman, I can do it!) felt like Nanook of the North lol.
Got on scales this morning - still the same. I'm wondering if I've reached 'core' weight? I'm 5'10'' so not overweight. I'm going to carry on though 'cos its easy to do, convenient & I might still lose a few more pounds even if its 2oz a week :rotfl:

Hi there, mind if I pull up a pew? I have spent the last week reading this thread (it's taken me that long as I keep finding other things to read as a sideline from the links :o. DH ordered the book a fortnight ago and I finished reading it on valentines day. As I had read it all, I asked DH if he wanted to just jump right in and start the following day so we did.
Our first fast day was not great as tea was jacket potatoe and baked beans. Boy are they high in calories!
I came down with an awful cold on the Friday. Second fast was Monday and it went ok as I spent much of the day in bed feeling ghastly. I had poached eggs for tea. Third fast day on Thursday was far better. Massive plate of salad for tea with 1 poached egg.
We will be fasting Mondays and Thursdays unless we have other things going on. The children are interested in observing us which has enabled some good in depth conversations around food, calories, body fat etc. they are quite clued up generally but were wondering why I am fasting as I'm not overweight (in fact, according to the BMI calculator we use at work, I am in the red underweight zone). I was explaining that it is natural for a person's weight to fluctuate slightly over any given period and that there is a general seet weight which your body seems to feel happiest at. I explained that I am a smidgen over that and can tell because my knees are telling me to sort it out.
When they ask if they are fasting, we use the opportunity to explain the importance of them NOT fasting as they are growing and DD especially is laying down her stores of calcium for bone density.
Generally, I will make tea for all of us but with the week we had last week, DH made his own fast dinners as he is fussy and the kids have been a little off their food with stinking colds so have relished having poached eggs on toast 2 nights in one week!
I will keep them eating the same as us on fast days but just make us they are getting enough extra at breakfast and lunch.
My aim for this is health benefits for myself and supporting DH who has a good 2-3 stone to lose mainly from his tummy area. I have nagged and cajoled him for years about the position of his weight gain and tried to encourage gentle weight loss. He has embraced this lifestyle so off we go. Here's to him having a fit and healthy old age :).
I do worry about him because he is much heavier than his very svelte brother and he has always got so offended when I have hazarded a guess at his weight being 13stone or more. He forgets that, being 6 ft 4 means he will be heavier than his shorter brother with a slender frame. Ones built like a whippet and the other like a brick out house!
BiL and his wife started this diet 3 weeks previously. They were shocked at their weight gain over the years. SiL although only a size 8 had put lots of weight on around her tummy. She has lost this already and is back to her normal healthy rake like figure!
I would like a flat tummy from this but we shall see.
I may have to do short 24 hour fasts at times as I work nights so if my start night for a block of shifts is Monday or Friday, there's no way I can last through a day and a night shift on 500kCals!
Have eaten tea and now switched to hot water for the night. See you all again and sorry for rambling :)

After missing 2 slimming world classes, I started this programme about 3 weeks ago on the Monday. That Thursday when I weighed in I had lost 6.5 pounds. Now whether that was a collective from the 3 weeks or becasue of water loss I'm not sure but the next week I had maintained the weight loss which means at least it stayed off. I didn't manage to weigh in last week as I was too busy. Then this weekend I got sick. On Saturday I only really ate lunch (a big bowl of Special K followed by breadsticks and houmous!)....for the rest of the day all I ate was Skittles and a long liquorice cable!!!!! But I couldn't count it as a fast day after that really ha ha. So I fasted yesterday which was good becasue I was more ill yesterday and didn't really want to eat anyway. So I had veg soup for lunch at 162 calories and scrambled eggs with ham and cheese in the evening for 280 calories plus lots of peppermint tea. Anyway when I weighed myself on my dodgy scales last night (I never trust these completely cos they are so fickle hence the reason I weigh in at the slimming club (plus I had bought a 12 week commitment), I was half a stone down on my last weigh in and this morning it was more like 10 pounds! Be interesting to see what the true scales say on Thursday!!! I'll let you know. If i have lost, it will appear that my weight only comes off every few weeks or so which is fine. In fact that is more motivating!

P.S: Was absolutely ravenous for breakfast this morning...actually was ravenous half the night and as I had slept so much already over the weekend I couldn't sleep...I was dreaming what to have for breakfast. As it is I've had Special K (80g) and skimmed milk for 380 calories, plus I'm drinking lots of water. I feel stuffed!!!

I'm also not moving on the scales now... I've stayed the same since i recovered fromchristmas excesses. Which is OK as I am roughly where I want to be ( and have not been that light for over 20 years!). In fact, I wonder if the weight would start creeping up very slowly if I stopped... so better. Not chance it as I don't find it difficult.

  • :-( Sadly my weight has gone up even though I'm doing just the same fast days and keeping feast days to around 1600 cals. Boo.

Fasting today. I don't weigh myself often but caught sight of myself side on in the mirror the other day, and the gut is going.
