  • It's my fast day today and I've really struggled as I've got a cold, thought about food all day! If I'd been on a normal diet I would have caved in today and had a Chinese or chips for my tea.Still another day down and hopefully the weight down aswell.

    Debt-free and Proud!
My first fast dat today. Think I ate a bit more than 500 cals but hopefully not too much.

I had two apples and a plum over the course of the morning.

Homemade chicken broth for lunch - 2.5 cups of it (one bowl)

Then one cup of broth watered down with hot water later when DD had tea.

Then have just had half a tin of drained tuna, four radishes, a third of a courgette and what should have been one boiled egg but the egg broke so I did another which also broke, so I ate them both as most of them ended up in the water.

Also have had tea with milk, but can't bring myself to count the milk in those.

I have been ravenous since about 4pm and still am despite my salady thing.

Tomorrow I am having crumpets for brekkie!!

I was wondering if it would be easier to just eat a small thing every couple of hours rather than do meals?

What does everyone else find easier?

Oh an I created this page on Facebook for me and my friend who is doing the diet with me. Feel free to join us on there. :)http://www.facebook.com/#!/52DietSupport

    I hope that link works.

    My first fast day today.

Had a very small salad with a few very small pieces of ham in it for lunch.

Had one chicken fajita wrap, with lots of salad for dinner.

Had 2 crackerbread (cardboard:rotfl:) for a snack just now.

Had 520 calories today, and fairly easy.

I am going to have 3 crackerbread for lunch tomorrow, and a chicken breast with 2 small potatoes, tons of veg for tomorrow, non fast day, but want to limit my intake to 1100 calories, I may even sneak a small whisky in;)

I have got to say I don't feel bloated at all today unlike normally, maybe bread and the high carbs I used to enjoy and eat far too much of didn't agree with me.

As for fizzy drinks, well, sugary or not we should really try to limit the amount consumed. Full stop. The sugary ones are full of... well, sugar and the others of chemicals that frankly do little else but encourage us to crave sugar (and that's without the potential harm they do to us).
It is shocking that it has become part and parcel of a trip to the cinema or some mass market attraction to stuff your face with junk food and litres of fizzy drink. We have to do something to change what is happening to our children.

I used to drink loads of diet coke; I have now completely stopped and drink water mostly when I became aware that it simply encouraged me to crave sugar and that it was such a bad product for the environment in general. And it saved me money too!

I have to disagree for me personally anyway - Diet coke does not make me crave sweet things at all. I have one small bottle at lunch, and maybe a glass in the evening (none on fast days). I'm a grown adult and although I have no children, I have nieces and nephews, and believe it's the parents responsiblity (or carers) to limit the fizzy drinks, not hike the price to stop it. I never buy anything in the cinema (more to do witht he outrageous prices they charge tho lol) .... so why should I be penalised for chosing to have a diet coke in the evening instead of a glass of wine etc?

Anyway ... feeling a bit down today .... weigh in this morning doesn't look good for the official weigh in tomorrow - and I've been bloody perfect this week. I have a lot to lose, so every week counts :(

I think everyone seems to do something different ... for me I like a light breakfast around 8am of around 150 cals then a 350 Lunch around 1230. Then nothing until 8am the next day. I can get through a hungry (ok sometimes completely starving) evening, knowing that I can eat again in the morning. But like I say everyone does something different, so just experiment and find what fits you best. Good luck! :)

Oh -I am so sorry to read you are feeling down today elletee:( I think we all have days like those. I was a bit disappointed with my weight loss at the weekend -just under 1lb and I had been very careful on my fast days to stick to under 500 cals and I am certain I didn't overdo it on my non fast days. Plus I had done extra exercise during the week. I have quite alot to lose as well and will probably still be doing 5:2 in two years times at this rate. I always have given up in the past when the going got tough, but not this time if I can help it. I struggled on my fast day yesterday too, my 7th. I was hungry all day and it really took all my efforts not to cheat. I think though even if I don't lose any weight one week I will try to keep going because sometimes it must take a bit of time for our bodies to break down the fat and for it to leave our systems. Don't give up:) -I am in it for the long haul as well and we are all here to encourage each other.

I am with you on the price hikes as well, as I posted earlier. I cannot see it solving anything. My issue with this is, does hiking up prices really discourage people from buying fizzy drinks, cigarettes or alcohol? I personally suspect not, but it does increase taxes.

I know some people do not agree with me on this, but I do think retailers still promote too many unhealthy products and not enough of the healthy ones. Common offers being, pizza's, fizzy drinks, crisps, alchohol etc. I also agree that, the price of fresh fruit and veggies is often extraordinarly high, partly fuelled by the public demand for variety and perfection. However, I am sure there are many of us who would eat a wonky carrot or a bendy cucumber particularly if this was reflected in lower prices.

The initiative to re-introduce cookery classes back into our children's education, I believe is a great move. To teach a child from a very young age about nutrition can do no harm and hopefully they will continue to develope this knowledge and as adults be able to make better choices. I don't think that this will mean that they never have a fizzy drink or a glass of wine or beer as an adult or consume the odd pizza -but they will have a better understanding of how making too many of the wrong choices will affect their lives and the lives of their children.

As always, well done yesterday's faster's, good luck to today's and best of luck to tomorrows:T and thanks to everyone for the support they give on this thread.

  • I was shocked after years of on off dieting , to find the side effects- through research- not hearsay, cause a craving of sweet things. They don't tell you that in weightwatchers, slimming world etc- or children's nutrition. I stopped all commercial reduced sugar drinks and found a lot of my sweet cravings went. - so watch out. Maybe it only affects some people.
On a fast day today- not really in the mood.

Hello, can i join in please :) i am having my very first fast day today and i'm actually surprised at how well i am doing so far (famous last words maybe)
I really thought i would struggle on my tea break at work as i usually overdo the biscuits then but i managed and was surprised to find that i got through the rest of the morning without any hunger pangs when normally i'm ravenous by lunchtime.
Anyway i sense an early night tonight as it's in the evening that i usually pick at food so i will have a nice salmon fillet, which is a treat in itself to me to be honest as no one else in the house likes salmon so i never make it, with some lovely veg and hope for the best.

This is a brilliant thread i've read as much of it as i could over the past few days since i decided i was going to start and i love the way everyone is so encouraging, thanks guys :T
