elizabunny wrote: »Hello everyone, We went out shopping today specifically to buy me new jeans as all of mine have gone a bit baggy. I bought them when I was around a stone and a half heavier and the half stone I have recently lost on the 5:2 has sent my jeans over the edge and into a recycle bag. Well, I tried on 5 pairs and came out empty handed as I picked up the wrong size (too big:D) and time was getting a bit short. In the end I settled for a new dress 2 dress sizes smaller and DH paid:j What an incentive! I haven't had a new dress for ages!
I still have to sort out some new jeans another day and I will have to go through the wardrobe and dispense with a few more things because they're just too big:D I am really loving this and wish I had done it sooner.
Oh - well done Elizabunny  Wore my swanky leather CS suit today as DH wanted to take the trike out. Met up with friends & they all said to DH how slim I looked - Me? a swan???
FD tomorrow & quite looking forward to it as I've had a bacon roll for lunch & Lamb Shanks for dinner!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
My weigh in tomorrow- I'm not hopeful this week as have been moping around eating whatever I wanted to... On the bright side my Mum and SIL said that I looked slimmer today! I'll post my results for this week tomorrow to keep me on the straight and narrow!
I know it's going to be a long journey dieting this way but it's more sustainable than anything I've done before! Might try 4:3 this week (Mon, Wed and Fri) to try and counteract the food I've eaten this week! Good luck to everyone for this coming week!0 -
Good morning, did intend sleeping in as today is FD, OH probably wont get up before 9.00. He says he doesn't miss breakfast that way and as he only eats sugar frosted cereals there is no way I can factor that into his 600 cal. I always eat breakfast as 'no food' makes me feel quite ill even though I don't normally feel hungry. I have 20gms sugar free muesli with water.
Made a large batch of Hungarian mince last night and will portion it later. Good to have in the freezer all ready. We like it enough to have on 'other' days. Recipe from Lavender & Lovage.
Good luck.0 -
Hello all fellow FD'ers!
it's my 3rd week and I'm loving my changing attitude to food ... I've realised it's not going to kill me to be hungry and on non-fast days (like yesterday) I naturally go longer without feeling hungry.
I lost 2.5lbs the first week, but only .2 of a pound the second ...but I think that was because I had a meal out/pancakes the night before weigh in (I hope!). I'm a daily weigher (can't help myself) and it's amazing how much the weight fluctuates during the week on this diet, but I compare my non weigh in day weight to the week before at the same timie, and I'm down about a 1lb ... so I have until wednesday morning to lose another .5 to make my 1.5 goal.
I had a couple of NSV (non scale victory's) this week though - a belt I bought not that long ago is now too big for me ... and 2 people notice that I'd lost weight weeeeeeeeeee :T :blushing: oh and recycled 2 pairs of jeans as they were too big!(Oh how I wish I'd measured myself before I started to see how much I've lost in inches - will try and remember to do it tonight - better late than never!)
Still a long way to go (around 5 stone!) but getting there.
Good luck to all Monday fasters!

Morning all!
Well done silvasava -it does so much for the confidence to receive lovely comments:T
Well done everyone else too!:T
It's great having an inspirational thread like this. It helps to keep us all on track -even when things don't always go according to our plans. I would love to lose 2-3lbs every week, but I realises on the 5:2 this is probably not possible every week. Although I achieved those sort of results in the first two weeks -Saturday was just less than 1lb. This would be the point I normally give up, but not this time because if I can lose 1lb a week, I am more likely to keep it off.
I also think being in the right frame of mind makes all the difference to whether or not we succeed. If we are doing this for ourselves, because we chose to, success seems more achievable. Where as, speaking for myself, if I was trying to do this because I thought I ought to, or someone was telling me I had to, I would find the whole thing a lot harder. I suppose it's a bit like stopping smoking -you can do it IF YOU really want to, but again it is so much harder if you're being told you should by someone else.
This brings me on to thinking about the latest possible initiatives to 'encourage' us all to eat healthier, by possibly taxing fizzy drinks and banning all advertisements for unhealthy food before the watershed. The problem with this is that if someone likes fizzy drinks, they will still pay for them and the only winners will be the powers that be. Again, banning advertisements before the watershed for unhealthy food, will only work if the 'parents' decide not to purchase less healthy products, it is after all the adults that pay for the weekly shop and not the children. I would have preferred a more pro-active approach by making healthier foods cheaper. Why is it that retailers can always be encouraged to raise the price of our food/drink but are less inclined to reduce the prices. Perhaps a greater proportion of buy one get one free on our fruit and veggies could be offset by a lesser proportion of buy one get one free on the less healthy products. Just my thoughts, but I would love to see more thoughtful pricing and less inclination to raising taxes to solve every problem.
Well now that's off my chest I can now say, it's a fast day for me today:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:so no fizzy drinks or need to ban advertising, because I am doing it for me.
Well done weekend fasters, good luck to today's and best of luck for tomorrow's:TSealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

One questsion re the Fizzy drinks that nobody (that I've seen) has answered they (whomever they are?!) want the price raised due to the calorie content/obesity .... so will the diet versions remain the same price?! I'm thinking not
I love my diet coke!

Supermarkets want to sell you more; I don't "buy into" the BOGOF principle for fruit and veg because it's mostly seasonal variations that change the price rather than real costs. (remember for other products the brands want you to get attached to the product; this doesn't apply to fruit and veg).
Also, fruit and veg are often grossly overpriced in supermaket because of the convenience and uniformity of products we the customer are prepared to pay for.One questsion re the Fizzy drinks that nobody (that I've seen) has answered they (whomever they are?!) want the price raised due to the calorie content/obesity .... so will the diet versions remain the same price?! As for fizzy drinks, well, sugary or not we should really try to limit the amount consumed. Full stop. The sugary ones are full of... well, sugar and the others of chemicals that frankly do little else but encourage us to crave sugar (and that's without the potential harm they do to us).
It is shocking that it has become part and parcel of a trip to the cinema or some mass market attraction to stuff your face with junk food and litres of fizzy drink. We have to do something to change what is happening to our children.
I used to drink loads of diet coke; I have now completely stopped and drink water mostly when I became aware that it simply encouraged me to crave sugar and that it was such a bad product for the environment in general. And it saved me money too!

I have been loving this thread for the past 2 weeks since I started on 5:2, only just got round to registering and stopping being a serial lurker.
I haven't weighed myself (previous dieting failures tell me that I tend to get obsessed with this and punish myself for not losing enough, causing me to comfort eat and binge) but I have been monitoring my waist circumference.
I discovered today that since starting at the beginning of Feb I have lost 2 inches off my waist so far! And I still had loads of choconana pancakes with the kids, went away for a weekend with friends and celebrated valentines!
It has been totally manageable for me to work in the 2 days around other plans, plus despite have a history of hypoglycaemia I have found that my blood sugar control has been fine. I think not having a sugary breakfast has really improved this.
I have ordered some penne made from the same stuff as the shirataki noodles, a favourite family meal is spag bol so I thought this would help me be able to still have it on fast days (we make it with quorn now so pretty low cal comparatively).
On the subject of fizzy drinks, I have always been really strick with my 2 child (aged 6 and 10 now) about this, a good compromise is to mix high juice with fizzy water. Even that is a treat as carbonated drinks are bad for bone density I believe. I rarely drink them myself because I get terrible burps! lol0 -
I have had my third fast day today and surprised myself at how simple it is to follow - stops me obsessing about food! and I thought i would be ravenous the next morning - but no! lost 0.5kg last week (which is a good loss for me, tends to move v slowly) Error last week was fasting on a gym day, so changed around to non gym days (school hols this week anyway!) Also found that an oxo cube in boiled water, rather than mari**** stock - which can be a bit salty for me - has kept me going on fast days. Thanks for all the positive encouragment on this thread, makes me feel that I might actually get somewhere this time0
