5:2 diet

  • So how many calories did each group consume over the test period?

This is the diet the daily mail have been going on about this week. It is fairly complicated, not calorie counting but all about portions! Gives you a list of catagories of what to eat and you have a certain amount of portions (need to weigh food) per category a day.
Even on the 5 days off you have to follow same guidelines although you are given more catagories of food to have, it is still about portions! I have just done the "2 days", ate a lot of protein, no carbs. Didn't feel hungry, but did suffer from heartburn!

    Photogenic
fasting today - 22g of Jordans tropical mueseli was 72 Calories I didn't see that coming! Had it with half a small apple (20g) and 20g of Fat Free Fromage Frais (trying saying that in a hurry) for a total of 93 Calories.

Last night I was below my target for Calories in on a feast day so I had to get into the single malt, the sacrifices I make ;)

Grannyjo - I started the 5:2 diet mainly because with the menopause & oestrogen suppressing medication I had a definite 'Muffin Top'. As both parents & both sets of grandparents all had heart & circulatory disease problems I felt this would improve my health & if I lose weight in the process - yipee!. My weight loss has not been as impressive as some 5:2ers but it is going down & this morning I said to DH 'I think I can see the beginnings of a waist' I know my waist measurement is gradually coming down & like a lot of people on here I've got used to the FD's & they're not a problem so I'll certainly be able to keep it up.

Hi Faster's, a late post for me today because I've been feeling a bit 'off'. Completed yesterday's fast really well, didn't feel hungry and was quite pleased with myself, but woke up today at 4am feeling:(.

I think if anything, my digestive system is having a bit of a struggle with itself after fasting. Not quite sure how to counteract this or if even if I can, but again I suspect that I might not be drinking enough water. Feeling a bit better now, so I will see what happens Monday.

I have also read about the research re: the sensible eating group and the high fat eating group on non-fasting days and it does indicate surprising results. I think there is a lot more to be discovered about the 5:2 diet and hopefully the research will give us more promising results.

Well done yesterday's fasters! Good luck to today's fasters and best of luck for tomorrow's!:T Keep up the good work:)

Started 2012 13st 7lbs - 11st now! Want to lose another 7lbs. Have found that, for me, what works best, is to watch my calories (500 twice a week and about 1500-1800 rest of week) but to eat whatever I want if we go out (not that often!) or are on holiday. Find I'm very happy as long as I don't feel deprived all the time. A strict restricted diet doesn't work for me. I have an underactive thyroid so can put on weight just thinking about food!
Happy to eat small portions as long as they have plenty of flavour. At the moment I'm hooked on T**co's smoked paprika.
Good luck everyone. We will all be slim, beautiful and healthy very soon!

    That's brilliant oaprut:T

I also have underactive thyroid and have found it so difficult to shift any weight - I am sure people just think this is an excuse when I tell them how hard it is:( Like you, I just have to look at food or smell it and I am sure I put on a few pounds:)

This diet is just so simple to do and does work.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

Well done to everyone but just a word of caution to those cutting down a lot on non fast days. I think it is quite well known that the body, after a period of low calorie intake, puts itself in starvation mode, and uses as few calories as possible. This can lead to real medical problems and you do not lose weight as much as you would if you are not in starvation mode. I don't know enough and would like to know a lot more about the 5-2 diet but I think one of the reasons it is good is that if you eat sufficient on non fast days, you do not enter a starvation mode.
I am finding- hurrah- I am losing some weight but have noticed I am not that hungry first thing on the day after a fast day.

    Morning all,

Just reporting in with our results for this week. As I thought I haven't loss too much, but I have lost something. I am happy with this because although it's not much, it is still in the right direction:) DH is doing amazingly and has lost more than me again:T So here are the results:-

    Me

Weight loss 0.84lb (just over three quarters of 1lb) 7.25lbs in 3 weeks

Body Fat %: (stayed the same as last week)

Water %: (stayed the same as last week)

Muscle%: (stayed the same as last week)

and 1" lost from waist in 3 weeks :)

    DH

Weight loss 1:9lbs (just under 2lbs) 9lbs in 3 weeks

    Body Fat %: down 0.4%

    Water %: Up 0.3%

    Muscle%: Up 0.1%

Although DH has less weight than me to lose, he is more active and I think this explains why he is achieving better results. However, between the 2 of us we have lost 1st 2.25lbs in 3 weeks, so we are both amazed and thrilled.:D

As always, well done yesterday's fasters, good luck to today's and best of luck for tomorrow's:T. Our next fast day is Monday. Keep up the brilliant work everyone!

Feeling very happy and pleased with myself! Just bought 2 pairs of trousers from M&S - size 14 - yippee!!!!!!!!
Can there be anything nicer than having to buy smaller size trousers!

Downside is that a lot of my clothes no longer fit very well and I can't afford to replace them all. Have been trying out my rusty sewing skills and have started altering some things. Glad I was brought up when sewing was 'normal' so I do know how to make 'new' things from 'old'.
