5:2 diet

Grannyjo - I started the 5:2 diet mainly because with the menopause & oestrogen suppressing medication I had a definite 'Muffin Top'. As both parents & both sets of grandparents all had heart & circulatory disease problems I felt this would improve my health & if I lose weight in the process - yipee!. My weight loss has not been as impressive as some 5:2ers but it is going down & this morning I said to DH 'I think I can see the beginnings of a waist' I know my waist measurement is gradually coming down & like a lot of people on here I've got used to the FD's & they're not a problem so I'll certainly be able to keep it up.
How long have you been on it sivasava and how much have you lost. I have the same family general problems and tried various diets- mainly atkins bias in recent years with a low carb routine. Touch wood after about 8 days with 3 fast days and 2ibs loss I am finding it the easiest diet so far. I can cope with the fast day knowing I can eat anything the next day.
I think its important on this forum to differentiate the horizon 5-2 routine and the daily mail one.
The daily mail one, to me seems a lot more than 5oo cals on the fast day- and limits the other days. It seems it is a eat mediterranean diet, with 2 days smallercalorie intake . The horizon one seems to be 500 cals for 2 days a week, 5 days eat what you want- but make you sure you get the right nutrients over all.. It would be interesting if forum members said which method they were using so we can compare how they both go.0 -

.
I've been on it for about 5/6 weeks & seem to be losing about 1lb a week. To be honest I did WW years ago & lost weight but it took me ages as I used to lose about 1/2lb a fortnight! I'm finding this much easier as its so flexible & although I do want to lose some more weight the health side is more important to me.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

The DM diet is a new fangled diet which looks difficult and complicated. The Horizon one is what most people are using. For two non consecutive days a week you eat 500 calories (600 for men) and the other days eat what you want.
I have lost over a stone on this diet since August. This week I ate so much on the non fast days and didn't go to the gym only to find I had lost a 1lb which is more than usual. My tummy fat is almost completely gone. It seems to me the more I eat on non fast days the more I lose (this week I have eaten curry, bolognese, roast beef, rich beef stew and pork casserole, plus biscuits, chocolate, fruit and cream, cornflakes for supper on 2 non fast days, bacon sandwiches, porridge made with water with sugar and full fat milk every day except for the 2 fast days, hot chocolate.) Not a particularly healthy diet and one which most of you will not want to follow. However, all my dinners are made from scratch and I have lost weight eating normal portion sizes.
I've got home made chicken curry, rice, Naan for dinner tonight with a glass of lager followed later on by a Cornetto. I will have wine with my dinner tomorrow. I am now 8st 10lb.:)The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

Hope all is still going well for everybody.
I did my fast on Thursday and a lowish calorie on Friday and am having some treats this weekend. Next fast Monday.
It helps that the weather is better and I can get out into the garden (and away from the fridge;)).
I'm now going to do some dancing in the dining room and then some telly.
Good luck all:)0 -

Good luck and keep going!
I'm quite a newby at this, but I've lost 5lb in the 3 weeks I've been doing the fasting diet (3lb first week, 1lb second and third weeks) and that is a better result for me than just about any other diet I've ever tried (and there's been quite a few) - mainly because I don't keep them up that long LOL!
I don't think about dieting or calories on non-fast days and just try to eat healthily with a treat at the end of the day - chocolate! And I don't binge eat on non-fast days - I don't seem to want to, probably because I'm not thinking about food and calories all the time!
I plan to keep going until I've lost all the weight I need to, then go back to 5:2 if I put any weight back on. I see it as a long-term way of life, not just a "diet".0 -
Hello everyone, We went out shopping today specifically to buy me new jeans as all of mine have gone a bit baggy. I bought them when I was around a stone and a half heavier and the half stone I have recently lost on the 5:2 has sent my jeans over the edge and into a recycle bag. Well, I tried on 5 pairs and came out empty handed as I picked up the wrong size (too big:D) and time was getting a bit short. In the end I settled for a new dress 2 dress sizes smaller and DH paid:j What an incentive! I haven't had a new dress for ages!
I still have to sort out some new jeans another day and I will have to go through the wardrobe and dispense with a few more things because they're just too big:D I am really loving this and wish I had done it sooner.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin
5:2 Diet started 28/1/2013 only 13lbs lost due to Xmas 2013 blip.0 -
Found today's fast really tough - usually fast in the week so I am busy at work and have less time to think about food. We're going visiting relatives for a few days so thought I'd better stick a fast day in before I went. Tea was chicken breast, brussels, carrots and brocolli with two Aunt Bessies yorkshire puds (only 40 cals each). Have lost 12lbs since starting 5 weeks ago, stayed the same this week and have to keep reminding myself that the overall trend is down! Could do with losing a couple of stone and would be happy with 1b loss a week. Will see what the next few days brings!0

Hi Tesuhoha
Can you tell us an example of what you eat on Fast Days please.0 -
Hi Tesuhoha
Can you tell us an example of what you eat on Fast Days please.
My way is to not eat breakfast or lunch. I sometimes have a couple of brazil nuts (literally) and a satsuma or mandarin. I find I get less hungry if I don't start eating.
At about 5-5.30pm I usually have a dinner of either a small bowl of soup, stew or a tuna pasta salad. This consists of a small portion of tuna, about 4 pasta shells and green salad with lemon, olive garlic home made dressing. One of these meals is enough to take me through. The dinner is usually approx 350 calories and I eat it very slowly which makes me feel full.
During the day I allow myself tea or c.offee with semi skimmed milk. About 3 cups. This helps me to keep going. I drink water too. Sometimes at bedtime if I really fancy something I will have a 40 calorie cup of hot chocolate made with water.
On non fast days I wouldn't say I pigged out but I don't restrict myself and if I fancy something I have it. I think that is the secret of keeping to this diet because you know you can get through the fast days and then you can enjoy your food. Having said that I have noticed that I no longer want to get up for seconds with my dinner as I used to so may be naturally eating smaller portion sizes. For breakfast I often struggle to finish my porridge.
I had my curry tonight but only had rice as was not hungry enough for Naan. This was becauseI had a bacon sandwich for lunch. I overindulged on Cornetto and Revels but I'm not too worried about that. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0
