my 6th FD today and decided to have lunch and not just the one meal which I did on monday.
Had the lovely spicy tomato and lentil soup, recipe provided by one of this group, and tonight will be having King prawn chow mein from the waitrose recipes online which is 433kcal.
Can now fit comfortably back into my 40" waist trousers, but looking forward for them to be loose on meFollowing horizon 5-2 started 28/01/13 target where I am now ish
Maintaining now as DW doesn't want my legs to get any skinnier

It does work. It's also how I do sweet potato. The difference is the BNS shrinks a bit in the cooking process, but just as tasty.0 -
Hi all
Well today is going really well for me as I've been so busy. I'm going to be good this evening and make it my fast day.
I have a big event in mid April and would like to lose a stone if possible so, now that I'm in the groove, I might do 4:3 on a week where I feel ok about it. However, I need to be careful not to overdo the dieting and then onto a big binge which ruins all the good work.
I also need to keep reminding myself that this is a "diet" for life and not just another fad diet.
Good luck all0 -
I'm on the 5:2 diet too and there are some good suggestions on the other thread. My mainstays are
1. porridge made with water, some low fat greek yogurt and some blueberries
2. two ryvita with seeds, a scrape of philly light and half a slice each of presliced edam on top and a cup of tea
I like these so much that I have them on non-fast days now. They're both filling
Good luck.0 -
third week of 5 2 now done - not finding the fasting day too much of a trial nowadays!0

potato and beetroot salad - tinned new potatoes (100g = 106 cals), beetroot (50g = 20 cals), with a little bit of thinly sliced onion, gherkins and a dollop of natural yoghurt (25 cals) - preferably with a small tin of tuna (63 cals)0

i read somewhere that a research team studying the 5-2 diet, split a group in two, with one group having a high fat diet on their 5 days and the other group having a sort of low cal diet of salads and 'sensible food'- both groups eating as much as they wanted on the 5 days. The group on the high fat diet for 5 days were a bit annoyed as they thought they would not lose as much weight as the 'sensible' food group. The research team were amazed that the high fat first group lost more weight than the 'sensible' food group.
it seems that wight loss is a bit more complicated than calorie intake.
I suppose really it depends on an individual as to what works. From the horizon programme what really interested me was the benefits of letting the digestive system rest so that the body could concentrate on rebuilding, repairing etc. On the programme, his weight was down, but also internal organ fat blood pressure and insulin function were improved
I did 1 fast day, ate sensibly for 2 days, another fast day then ate all the wrong things- pancakes, cake, cheese chocolate plus some sensible food, for 2 days. My weight stayed the same until 6th day when after eating rather piggishly for the 2 days, I lost a pound. I'd eaten a lot of bread too which I find makes my weight go up, due to increased water but I was amazed the weight had gone down after the 2 non diet days.
Anyone else getting odd results. I don't think its all down to total calorie intake.- but again- what works for you!!0 -
So how many calories did each group consume over the test period?0
