another fast day today; this will be our 12th one. I have been on a careful, calorie watching diet for a year now and have managed to lose a total of 31lbs and dropped 2 clothes sizes. Whilst I'm definitely feeling very pleased with myself, it hasn't been easy. When I saw the Horizon programme it seemed a wonderful option. Plus, it seemed possible that my husband might be willing to participate if I emphasised the 'health' benefits rather than the weight loss. So far it has been amazingly easy for both of us. The fact that we can eat out or have, say, pancakes tomorrow has made this the easiest diet so far.
I want to lose another 5-7lbs before we go away in March, so fingers crossed!!!!
Good luck everyone - we will all get there eventually!!!!!!
  • Think this is my 9th fast day. Or 11th not sure :o

Haven't eaten since about 7pm last night, when I finished off the last off some St Agur cheese. I've had homemade veg soup for lunch and having chicken, pots, broccoli, cauli and gravy for tea.

Out tomorrow with a friend who is doing slimming world, no doubt she will be checking what she can and can't eat and I won't have to bother. Been there, done that, thank goodness I don't have to do it anymore :)

I'm happy to report that it's going well after all! :D I managed to resist the call of the homemade spiced nuts (as I knew I could not stop at 1-2 or even 10!*), and kept with my routine of black coffee and green tea. Before my meal, as usual on a fast day, I did a short HIIT with kettlebells, and then enjoyed the leftover roast, quinoa and fresh salad. Now I'm so cool with food, that I just prepared some salmon fillets and green beans for my OH's lunch tomorrow, without any cravings at all!

Thanks for your support, and good going everyone!

    * I recently read an article entitled "What is the worst food you can eat?" and the gist was - anything that you cannot stop munching! So that's crisps, nuts and ice-cream for me...

started 3 days ago with a fast day and sensible med type diet oher days. I hope ti works. Put on about 4 lbs at xmas, then 4 lbs while on holiday. I feel very positive, my main concern is to try to reduce my borderline high blood pressure so I will not need medication. Does anyone know the models of the scales that measure body fat etc. I suspect I'm one of these people that collect fat round my organs. Good luck to all.

Grannyjo - I have these which are great and do measure your visceral fat - the fat around the organs. Mine is too high :( but it is reducing. The only problem I have with the scales is that they only measure is lb or kg and my brain only does stones and lb so I keep having to convert.

Glad I popped in for a bit of support as I am also feeling a bit 'edgy'. Been out for a walk and it was so cold felt the need to eat something stodgy. Luckily I have resisted and feel more in control. Off to make a few celeriac chips to add to my veg curry to see if that helps me feel a bit more 'satisfied' - otherwise it will be an early night for me to avoid temptation.
  • Fast day and found quite hard, was feeling cold and sniffly ... Had a nap and have drank water and warm water and lemon to warm me up ...
Tonight my stir fry was lovely and I feel content - even made a batch of sausage rolls and flapjack - cant wait to eat it in the morning :j

    Well done everyone:T:T:T

I've just made a lovely batch of nutty flapjack too. This is of course not for today, but will be enjoyed by DH and myself tomorrow and Wednesday.

I cannot believe how comfortable I am becoming around food and that I can actually prepare something yummy without diving straight in. The flapjack looks and smells gorgeous -but I can wait until tomorrow.

I ended up making a Cod Teryaki for dinner tonight. Basically a fish and noodle broth, but it was so lovely. The portions worked out at about 192 calories, but I went light on the noodles and packed it out with low calorie bean sprouts. It was very filling:D

Just water and maybe a couple of herbal cuppas for me until 7am tomorrow.

Didn't lose anything last week, annoyed to say the least, so haven't eaten anything today like a boss.
  • May I join in?
I've been doing 5:2 with great success since September
but this weekend got evicted from my other discussion forum
and its interesting to see how a different group of people are making it work for them too.
