I sleep like a log on fast days too, out like a light and right through to the alarm.

  • Grrr. Keep sabotaging myself.
Yesterday was going to be my fast day. I had porridge for lunch. Then ryvita mid afternoon and veg stew for dinner. All as planned. Then in the evening I has chocolate and ice cream. Not a huge amount (as I would have had pre 5:2) but enough to make it a non-fast day.

I'm trying again today. I'm not going to eat till as late as possible - that seems to work best for me. Wish me luck!
    Will report back later

Good luck LadyinBlack and silvasava and thank you foreign correspondent for the information:T

Well done on your excellent weight loss teaandcakeordeath:T

Managed to struggle to the end of my fast day yesterday without blowing it although it was touch and go just before bedtime. However, I slept really well and woke up this morning not feeling hungry at all.

Not fasting today, so had my usual smoothie for breakfast and a mug of bovr*l about 11am. Not counting calories but notice I am beginning to make better food choices -although I am planning to have some flapjack soon:D

I was reading through the 5:2 book last night and if I understand it correctly, it appears that if we wanted we could fast say from 2pm one day until 2pm the next. I am not sure if this means that a fast of exactly 24 hours twice a week is ok. I fast from around 7pm for the following 36 hours, so just having 500 cals in that period of time and I do this twice a week. How is everyone else doing this?

To anyone else fasting today Good Luck!:)

I'm sure this must be harder for those with children, mine are grown and flown the nest so I simply won't have in the house all the foods I know I'll scoff in weak moments on 'fast' days.

I'm aware my weight loss wasn't as quick as some but slow and steady, and the scales say I've lost a stone. Noticed the clothes I wore that had been on the tight side are now properly comfy.

BUT......this morning decided to try on a lot of stuff I'd stopped wearing at least 1 dress size ago - my confidence (& determination to maintain this diet) has gone into orbit. I slipped easily into nearly all of it. I'm thrilled.

Good luck everyone, stick with it. I'm off to reward myself with a huge slab of cake (just kidding).
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
  • I'm the same as you Eliza, I fast for about 36hours only consuming a max of 500 cals in the time frame and I do that twice a week. Earlier in the thread is a lady who fasted for so many hours of the day and only had a window of time to eat. She did very well, posted pics to. Actually, think that might be her blog that she linked to in her profile, but anyhow, all the information is there.

    Hi,

I've been reading some pages and would like to try this diet.. I've been dieting for some months and have managed to lose 4 kg, but I want to lose another 3 and it's becoming difficult..

The problem is that I think I'm going to be very very hungry during the day, which will make difficult to work.. I work in an office and I really can't concentrate when I'm hungry. (and I get hungry very easily... can't understand how some of my collegues "forget" to eat!!!)

How do you do it?? What type of food do you have for breakfast/lunch/dinner to add up 500 calories and not be hungry???
  • Alisha, firstly, well done on your weight loss!! Well done! It's finding the food you like and making it less calories. We all eat at different times. Some of us want 3 small meals a day, some of us save the cals and have a decent evening meal.

    Example
Breakfast - 1 slice of WW Danish malted bread 51 cals, then chose a light spread, say light olive spread 5g is about 18 cals = 69 cals

Lunch - asda good for you tomato and basil soup = 101 cals (170 cals total)

Dinner - You have about 330 cals to play with. A huge stir fry, a quarter of some pizza's, pots and veg with a small amount of chicken, fish and veg, etc.

Personally, I don't bother with breakfast, I don't start to feel hungry till about lunch and then I have soup. Usually homemade as its more for less cals.

My advice is to get myfitnesspal as a smart phone app, or on your computer/lappy/tablet look at what foods you like, and how you can make a less calorie choice. One of my tips is, I like stir fry, but I'm not a huge fan of noodles, so I julienne courgettes and use that as noodels, 200g of courgette is about 40 cals, 200g of noodles is 200+ cals.

Read the thread, there is some amazing advice given and links to website that will give you many more receipe ideas than I ever could.

You may find, as others have, that hunger is all in the mind. Being at work helps me as there isn't so much temptation to eat. My Sunday fast day is much harder.

If you start to think of your hunger pangs as the feeling of fat melting away then it may help.

    Hi all

I've just spent a couple of hours reading this blog (oops work - what work?) ... and apart from some of the posts (some people just won't understand how "just eat healthy food' isn't possible, or enjoyable for everyone - I enjoy my occasional junk food thank you very much!) i found the whole thing very very encouraging :)

Annnyway I've always been overweight, but over the last 2 years have lost over 4 stone mostly on Weight Watchers. During that time I also got divorced and discovered life again ... so sticking to WW 7 days a week is a struggle, I want to be able to go out with my friends and have a drink/meal, or go on dates and not have to worry about points, so the 5/2 diet seems perfect.

I'm on my first full week this week and I don't seem to have any problems with the 'fast' days.

A bit like Alisha, I don't think I could not eat at work, so the last couple of days fasting have been (fasting days being Mondays and Thursdays)

8am - Breakfast of 1 x warburtons thin, with thin scrape of low fat butter and marmite, plus skimmed milk tea with sweetners (how I have my tea anyway)

1230: Pitta bread with lettuce, carrot, peppers and chicken with sweet chilli dressing, and (my best find ever!) 10 cal no sugar jelly.
The lot comes to around 496 cals (never thought I'd be weighing lettuce!!)

Then it's just tap water (love my water) through the evening ... I find evenings fine as I just tell myself, 'you'll be off to bed soon, then you can eat breakfast' the first couple of days I had something yummy to eat first thing ready - but I just didn't fancy it - so I now just wait until my usual brekky of chocolate weektabix at 8am.

I still have a few stone to lose (BMI 36.6!!) but I'm getting there :)

Ok ... suppose I really should do some work now!

Many thanks to both, I already have a phone app which I've been using, but I do get extremely hungry in the morning (no way I can wait till lunch, and a soup will leave me feeling very hungry till dinner...).

Will read the rest of the thread to try to get more ideas.

Sadly my office is usually full of cookies, donoughts , etc, so temptation everywhere!
