Well having successfully added recorded for a mere 95p to free post items for work on a regular basis (until they realised it was never signed for) I can only suggest you change your post office.

Is there any point in asking if you wont listen to the answer?
If you add a stamp, thn the Freepost becomes null.
given you have applied postage then its a moot point(unless you under pay)
If you pay for RD alone, then the RD component is paid for and at the delivery office, the Freepost is charged as normal.

I didn't ask a question, so why would I listen to your answer which I beleive is wrong anyway ;)

Until you can point me in the direction of facts to back up you assertion then I will take it that my facts from RM site are correct, which is also backed up by the OP's experience at the PO, you may still have processed freepost but it doesn't mean you were right to send out a letter which was charged the recored price without the a stamp. AS you will know all mail is not treated the same, a stamped letter is always treated differently to an unstamped one, the stamp brings a lot of benefits to a letter that unstamped don't have, that is probably why Recorded can not be sent freepost as it would then be neither one or the other.

Like I said the Op has had a different experience, either could be correct so I looked on the RM site which says the OP's experience is the correct price to charge.
Freepost is not charged at the same rate as 1st or 2nd class, it is a discounted rate, Royal mail's own site says Recorded is 95p plus 1st or 2nd class postage, which clearly proves me right but I guess in your mind a bit of text highlighted in red always trumps the facts :rotfl:

or, to phrase it slightly differently

The recipient pays the postage (hence Freepost for the sender)

If the sender decided that he/she wants proof of postage in the form of recorded delivery the sender pays the recorded delivery fee only. As the actual postage is being paid by the recipient then there is no need for the Post office to ask the sender to pay postage + RD.

That's what all my local post offices used to say. They all charged the correct recorded charge, not the postage costs charge for freepost. When I used to have to send recorded tiems for work I used two local post offices and one Crown post office, all only ever charged the recorded part.

However sniggings believes it is wrong and I cannot prove otherwise so we will have to agree to disagree.

It is probably to do with insurance and not mixing priced services.

The sender is paying part of the charge and the other party the Freepost charge, if the letter were to go missing who would then be able to claim the insurance which is part of the Recorded service? the person paying for the recorded part or the freepost part? I expect there are other reasons too but this alone would suggest the two can't be mixed.

So are you saying you cannot get a POP when sending a freepost item, since you are not paying the postage?
Insurance is the same for RD and non RD items

I know the facts. Experience over opinion and a smiley
The rate paid is irrelevant. The sender is paying fro the recorded part. the basic postage is as good as paid already as long as it is going to the freepost addess

Facts as I seem to be giving and you colouring those facts is not getting us anywhere :rotfl:

Fact is no other service Royal mail offer has both parties paying part of the postage cost, this would be a legal nightmare to sort out, hence why Royal Mail say Recorded is priced at 1st or 2nd class postage, you can't really get much clearer than that, why you are arguing when you fail to product any facts what so ever is laughable.
