do you think it's just because i haven't checked for such a long time, the last time i actually counted calories properly (and checked what i should be eating) was when i lived at home with my mum :rotfl: now thats actually quite bad cos it means i've been dieting on & off for nearly 20 years
never thought about it like that before
so how many calories does everyone think?
i'm just planning on having fruit for now so will come back later before making dinner so i can decide what to have based on calories allowed!!
thanks

All the books I have read say for weight loss it should be 1,500 and then 1,250 when the weight has decreased def not over 2,000 wow what luxury:D
Congrats to all the loosers, feels good to shift it doesn't it?:D
Never forget a 1lb is a 1lb is a 1lb:j :j it is not a gain and had you not been watching what you eat it would have not been a loss, 1 lb leads you to target, one step further....0 -
Hi all - I know this may be a bit of a general question but figured I'd ask anyhow!
How much weight do you reckon I could lose in 6 weeks? I'm currently 12st 3 and 5ft 6 if that helps any.
I'd be following Slimming World - probably success express and would be exercising daily (prob about half an hour of aerobics a day and belly dancing for an hour, twice a week).
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi. I would like to say hi and introduce myself. My name is Deborah and I lurve food!!
I joined sw online at the end of Feb and joined a gym last week. I want/need to lose about 4 stone. My scales say that I am 13 5 ish, but the gym ones say I am 90 kilos, which I have worked out to be about 14 stone. I am only 5 foot 3.
I will spend the next few hours having a good motivating read of all of this thread. I have been a mse lurker for a while, but I only found this weight loss bit today and it's that that made me register.
Thanks.

That sounds good suggs - get rid of all your big clothes - that way you have a reminder not to have that extra portion if your trouser waists nip you in a bit- I've been there a few times to know that your plan is a good one.
BTW what is BMI?"It is always the best policy to speak the truth-unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar." - Jerome K Jerome0 -
welcome wobbler, hope you find the thread helpful. everyone here is very wise, kind and supportive.
well done suggs chucking away all your too big clothes!!!
1stTimer BMI is Body Mass Index.
It's worked out by a chart comparing your height and weight.
I dont really believe in it tho, as it only takes those two factors into consideration and not body shape/muscle etc.
Maybe i'm just skeptical coz my bmi is higher than ideal - i think i'm spozed to be 25 - but i'm really muscley (i'm talking big biceps and chunky - but rock hard- thighs!!) and so i feel frustrated when my doc tuts at my bmi and doesnt even do any fat measurements to determine how much is fat and how much is muscle.
Which leads me to a question...how do i lose weight WITHOUT gaining muscle???? I know most people lose weight and turn fat into muscle and become nice and toned, but i already have lots of muscle (used to be a gymnast) and dont want to build any more, just tone what i do have and lose the tyre round my middle. I currently do cardio and resistance in the gym, and play squash at least once a week. I also do sit ups and yoga indoors. any suggestions??? (petrichor can you give any more specific details on your floor excersie that helped get rid of your hip 'padding'???)
will go to the sportcentre tonight and weigh myself after squash and gym.
Well done all the losers and maintainers!!Moneysavinghopeful :rotfl:0 -

The BMI is a measure of weight of a person against height, it is normally a good measure, though I think it is flawed, as it takes no account of muscle density. For example a 80kg person would score the same whether they worked out everyday or was a couch potato.
So yes a good measure and it does help, but like most measured its not perfect

Hello to Everyone.
Finding the messages very motivating.
Have lost 2lb this week. Do I just post on here or do I have to let someone know to be included on the chart? Have already included myself on list for May target.
Thanks for help.0 -

Hi loopy
Sorry to hear that you maintained again, but the fact that you are thinking of reviewing your situation means that you have NOT lost your willpower. I found that this site http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm## gives a good indication of calorific needs in my particular case, but for goodness sake ignore that site that suggests 2300 cals  that's why we're all here on LW. Unfortunately the amount of calories needed has not changed over 20 years (I wish!). To give you that bit extra motivation, how about buying that lovely red skirt in a size 16, you won't want to waste the money and you can leave it out in a prominent place so if temptation rears its ugly head, you can look at it for a visual 'kick up the bum'.
xxxxI wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latterbut my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!
