I'd love to spend all afternoon in the corner but I am over the moon today so cannot spare the time:D I have won a ticket to England V Brazil on June the 1st at Wembley stadium, the 1st historical match it is billed at, my teenage son is not a happy chap as he wanted to go and I have only won one ticket so I am using it, can't wait, love football, especially England playing, can't think of anything nicer to have happened to me, I am very pleased to say the least and even more so seen as the tickets sold out with 10 mins and now are worth £500 oh the joy:j :j :j0

Hi and welcome to the show, there are a few of us that make visits to the gym all of different abilites and fitness levels so please feel free to stop and chat and ask the questions.
I tend to hit the gym 5 or 6 times a week, doing on average 40-50min of CV work. I have been doing this for over a year and its part of my plan on weightloss. I had a minor knee op in Novemeber and added swimming into the plan for a while. I will add the swimming back in a few weeks, now the rugby season has finished
Hi Suggs, thanks for the welcome. Maybe I wasn't such a fitness maniac after all, compared with your 5/6 gym visits per week!! *impressed*
I'm working abroad at the moment so will probably only manage 2x gym visits per week for the next 4 weeks that I am here, and intend doing upper body weights (chest/back/shoulders) on day1 and lower (legs & Abs) on day2. I'll then do about 30 mins of cardio on either the treadmill or elipse trainer. I read somewhere that it's better to do the weights first because it takes 20 mins of exercise before your body can metabolise fat into energy, so this means that my whole 30 mins of cardio will be fat burning.
My gym challenge will be the usual one that I always aim for, but never achieve  which is to get a six-pack. I used to have one until I discovered beer at 16. I almost made it a couple of years ago - the top 2 of the six were showing, but then changed my job and threw myself into that rather than going to the gym

Nice result Victory, I hope you enjoy the day. I got Mrs Suggs tickets to the England Under21 match that was held at Wembley a month or so ago, she said it was great day out. :jProud Member of the Lose Weight Thread on I Wanna..................

Hi
I decided to look into the reason behind daily fluctuations in weight and found
http://nutrition.about.com/od/diets/a/fatorwater.htm
Water weight can affect your total weight anywhere from one to five pounds and sometimes even more. It is important to understand what kinds of dietary factors can make these fluid shifts happen. To start, many of the high protein, low carbohydrate diets can cause a dramatic shift in your water weight. This is because as you cut back carbohydrate intake, your body starts breaking down the stored carbohydrates (glycogen) to use as energy and this breakdown causes the body to excrete large amounts of water. Once the body begins to use stored fat for energy, weight loss slows. This is the reason why most people lose a significant amount of weight right away on a low carb, high protein diet.
When a person following a low carb plan eats a carbohydrate-rich food they can easily gain one to three pounds overnight. However, this weight gain can be misleading because it is usually your body replenishing the fluid it lost and not gained fat. This three pound fluctuation becomes frustrating for many people and they end up yo-yoing back and forth with fluid weight thinking that it must be the half cup of rice they had the night before that caused them to gain that 3 pounds when in fact eating the rice just allowed them to regain some of the fluid they had lost from following a strict low carb plan. The fact is carbohydrates do not affect your weight quite that simply. Excess carbohydrates can strongly stimulate insulin production, which promotes fat storage and increases appetite. This kind of weight gain will happen gradually, not dramatically overnight. Sodium is another dietary component that can lead to fluid gain. Sodium can cause the body to retain fluid, leading to these frustrating daily weight fluctuations. Some people are more sensitive to sodium than others. Watch your diet and see if your weight gain corresponds with a high sodium meal the day before. For example, eating out in restaurants can often increase your sodium intake significantly since they tend to be a little over-zealous on salting and sodium-rich sauces and marinades.
To cut a long story short - it's nothing to worry about and quite normal...
BUT, if it had been this morning that it had happened I would have had to report a gain not a loss, thus ruining my downward trend. So for anyone that gains just a tiny bit and you know you've done nothing wrong, as an experiment, weigh yourself the following day to see if it goes.
This common sense applies to all of you but not me, because if it happens to me again then my toys will be straight out the pram pronto!!:D

Thanks for the welcome folks, I hope I'll be here for some time... I bought some scales today and they weighed me in at a rather horrifying 19 stone:eek: That is exactly the same as I was when I first joined SW. I managed to loose 5 stone then before falling off the wagon, so hopefully I'll manage the same again. Only this time I'll decide if I've done enough and try to maintain my weight rather than have the pressure to loose another 2 stone.
A practical question, do I have to go to a Boots or that sort of scales, I have a manic day on Wednesday so that would be really difficult. I could either go on Thursday / Tuesday or just get on my scales?0 -
Thanks to everyone that gave me a little shove back in the right direction.
I am going to experiment this week with syns and try to have as few as possible. Have had an egg sandwich, some grapes and a small bag of low fat crisps today (forgot what I was eating and they just leapt into my gob!)
Dinner will be lots of free food and diet coke.
No customers in work this week so I now can control my food all week (not resigned to buffets and rich dinners). Will keep up the extra exercise (Race for Life is looming!) and try to drink more water instead of Diet Coke/Pepsi as I'm sure this is making me more bloated and I drink gallons of the stuff a day!!
MUST TRY HARDER!!!!0 -
Sorry........
Forgot to say hello to all the newcomers!
Debbie I think you can weigh when ever its most convenient for you - on your home scales too as long as you are happy that they are consistent (ie will show a loss/gain and won't change depending on where you balance them!)
My kitchen is my diet hot spot for weighing!! Its always at least 2lbs lower in there - strange really as thats the place where most of the scoffing happens!:rolleyes:0 -
Hi Debbie
Your own scales will suffice, but try to weigh yourself at the same time each week, whichever is most convenient, on the same scales and wearing the same type of clothing. As you weighed yourself today why not make Monday your regular weigh in day. Don't think too far ahead, just take it a day at a time to get back into the swing of things.
