Hell fire!! All these folk grumbling over what has & hasn't been covered when ATEOTD, what does it really matter to just answer a persons question if you know the answer? Who has time to sift through 41 pages & 800+ posts?
Suppose calling people lazy is more fun though eh?!

A stupid question maybe but I'd like to know. Today I went over the required £6,000. I immediatly withdrew the surplus. Does it mean I'll get no interest for the month. Or will it be just one day were I don't get the interest?
  • You'll get interest for £6k only for that day, you won't lose a day or lose out in anyway.

Yes, that's what I would do. And not even mention that you had been to the branch before, that you called before........just say you want to register for the 4%.
innovate + Steve_xx - Thanks for the advice. Did as you recommended. Upgrade button now giving the error message.

    The experience leaves me wondering:

    - How many people across the UK, having been into a branch and been told "it's done", think they're getting 4% but aren't.

    - How many of those will actually notice their interest shortfall and complain.

My thanks also to those who originally spotted the upgrade button error message methodolgy and passed the information on here.

  • tried to do it to my 4th acc, almost got through but then they checked my other acc and saw that 3 are already enabled and immediately got shot down for the 4th.:(

Gave me a bit of grief for having 5. I played the ignorant card. :D

I wonder if it's worth trying again.

If you do, try and make sure you get someone else. If it sounds like the same advisor, say you rang the wrong number, hang up, and redial :)

Other people have been refused, redialled to get someone else, and got the request done.

    Why's this thread so long?

Coz lazy people keep asking the same questions !
Whenever anything like this comes around, we have a lot of threads on it. It's nothing new.Vantage 4%, FD 8%, i remember was it HBSC offering 5% or 6% whatever it was, Nationwide 4.25% ISA - any time there's quite a good deal on we get a LOT of threads.

Then they all go the same way - people speculating, wondering about the ins & outs of the T&Cs, it says this but does it also mean that, can i do this or don't i have to, it isn't really clear here etc etc etc. All this adds pages.
Then you get the "i was told this" followed by the "well i was told the opposite". I went on the phone & was told one thing, i went in branch & was told another. All this adds pages too.

Then people either don't have time or can't be bothered (there will be both) to sift through, so they ask their questions.

Why when these things come around don't we just have some sort of FAQ in post #1? Then all the FAQs will be right there at the start for people to see. If someone asks a question in the FAQs, it should be ignored. If they ask a question that isn't, then answer it.

Or maybe those people who ask the questions could just read the thread more often, then they wouldn't need to ask those questions, as they'd already know the answers :D

I don't think a FAQ would work for a lot of questions, as we don't have absolute answers for them. A lot of them are "The T&Cs say this, I was told this, but Y was told this." - putting that in the FAQ will just cause more confusion and then people posting to see if anyone knows a proper answer or not.
  • "Why when these things come around don't we just have some sort of FAQ in post #1?"

Good thinking batman, this would certainly save a lot of posts and time but.........this is a technical question, aren't the only people who could insert the faq, the op or the MSE team ?
The op may not have ability, (I am not insulting the op by the way). The MSE team may not have the inclination, it has taken a couple of years to make a very informative thread on this forum a sticky.

Agree, not least because some people wouldn't search through the FAQ any more than they are searching through post specific to a given subject.
