Sister got a dog....Update

Well the dog has improved with her course of tablets from the vets, she's still baldy in areas, but she isn't licking at those areas anymore. She only pee's in the house now when my stepdad comes in - everyone else she doesn't. My male friend came over and she had never seen him before and she didn't wee - she just must hate my ex (she pee's when sees him) and my stepdad.
But in other news - - - -
My sister is an evil $(%£%& -
Firstly - A few weeks back she went to stay at her horrible bum of a friends new house out the road somewhere, she left the dog with Peter (disabled man) and assured him she'd be back the Saturday (left the dog there Fri night) well she didn't come back AT ALL - I rang him up and he was saying the dog needs the toilet etc (He can't walk it, he's in a wheelchair) so I said the only thing you can do is let her out the front and hope she goes to the toilet on the front grass....
Well the dog ran off - 4 hours she was bolting around the village, someone phoned the dog warden, so I had to beg my friend to take me up there at 1am and catch her before the warden got her - I suspect she had went to the beach as she was soaking and smelled salty. She had a good time anyways - I went psycho at my sister.
Roll on to now - She sodded off last Tuesday (1 week ago) to unemployed loser promiscuous friends house, as I believe she is now seeing one of her friends cast offs - she was due back Sunday for college Monday, my mum was staying at mine Sunday - We both texted her Sunday Pm (Having left my mums at 4:30pm on Sunday) at around 7pm to remind her to give the dog it's tablets with it's food - she said she had etc etc.
Well my mum went home yesterday (Monday 4pm) and she was lying, she hadn't been home AT ALL, the dog had not been fed, and had no water left and obviously hadn't been able to go to the toilet in 24hrs!!!! Amazingly it didn't soil in the house but when my mum went in it was crying and scooching its bum across the floor - I am utterly FURIOUS with her - that is animal abuse.
She's apparently moving out tomorrow and has told my mum she isn't taking the dog as she's sick of being "tied down" and if she is forced to take it she's gonna let it go somewhere - She is SICK.
My mum is not letting her move back home when she leaves - good riddance I say. Anyone with her mentality doesn't deserve peoples help - how she is surviving the month with £25 (She owes me £20 hmmm) is beyond me, managed to blow her £200 bursary in a week at her douche friends house.
So there we go - poor Callie won't leave my mums side now, scared she'll be left again no doubt, my mum is going to keep the dog (we've been buying it's food etc anyways) and I told her I will help her out at the weekends with it (that's when she goes out, and I can understand her point as it's not her dog, and never wanted one)
Sister has deleted me off her FB etc - well she better not dare come crying to me when she realises how badly she has messed up her life, I have no time for someone so self centered and selfish as her. Utter disgrace she makes me sick.0 -
Also can anyone reccomend a harness for the dog that will make it easier for my mum to walk her? She is a fat collie - needs to lose weight - but now the snow has been and its getting freezing - my mum can't risk being pulled over as she already has nerve damage in her foot.
We already put a material face harness thing on her head so she can't pull as much, but she still strains which is annoying at the best of times, worse so when she sees another dog and tries to take you over a road onto oncoming traffic.
Just looking for the best thing to walk her on that minimises her pulling!
Oh and maybe a strong extender lead that can cope with her weight? Ive only really seen yorkshire terriers on them, but would be useful!0 -
You want a harness with a front ring on it. One design is the Mekuti, though if she's a bit fat it may rub. The Dog Games harnesses now come with a front ring and have a comfy fleece design

Re. extendable leads, I'm not a fan (feel they don't give that much control because you can't really reel them in and the locking mechanism can fail at times), but if you go for one I would ensure it definately covers a dog her weight, and go for the tape kind as opposed to the cord kind. I'd say stick to a good brand too like the Flexilead - think PAH stock them. Always use it on the harness to spread any jolts out across the body, never attach an extendable lead to a headcollar as the extra length could really do some damage to the dog's neck if they were to jar it.0 -
Buttonmoons big hug for you, your mum & that poor dog. I hope I never meet your sister!!
But great news that Callie's health has improved x0 -
Thanks for that link Krlyr that harness looks good - I can't see a price though do you know the rough cost? I don't mind buying it, just I do have 3 cats of my own + a child + a student :rotfl:
Need to get my cats a new activity tower, the 3 of them have broken theirs, makes me laugh watching them tumble off it lol.
Yeah I'm glad she's much better too, I took her out in the snow we had on Friday and she bolted back inside, the next day it had melted and was muddy everywhere and she utterly covered me in it shaking it on me, as I took her through the woods for somewhere different - sure she was squeezing and wee's for the hell of it!0 -
Right down the bottom it lists all the different sizes and prices, like links to seperate products (they'll all the same one just different sizes). I can't view the size list on here (work filter blocks it for some reason) but from the product photos I assume they say size 4 for a Collie, so £22. Not the cheapest but they're popular on dog forums. You could look for a secondhand one - try some Ebay, dog forums or even the agilitynet fleamarket

OMG you really have had a time of it!
I'm Glad your loser sister has gone and that your mum has (even if it's against her better judgement) agreed to take the dog on. {{{your mum, you and Callie the dog}}}
Good luck for the future, All the best.

Sounds like the poor dog is best out of it, glad she has you and your mum. Best solution for pulling is training.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I have 3 cats and she quivers in fear when one jumps near her, I don't think she has even stroked the dog but happily cooks it lamb chops to eat!
My sister went into town today to buy the dog a muzzle - the dog can't be trusted not to go for someone at the mo - I told her straight - muzzle it.
Noooo she's definatley not rough with the dog, my sister isn't a bad person, she's just incredibily naive and I really do think she has some sort of cognitive impairment as she certainly doesn't act almost 19. If anything, she's too SOFT with the dog, hence when she gives it a command, it usually ignores her unless shes dangling a bit of ham, my mum uses authority in her voice as its probably her worst nightmare to have the dog jump up on her or you know....actually touch her lol.
Are you sure your mum is the best person to be looking after the dog? You have said she doesn't like animals and doesn't stroke it and a 10 minute walk is no where near enough exercise.
Your mum may feel responsible as it was her daughter who took the dog on but if your mum does not want a dog would it not be better for your mum and the dog to rehome her.0 -
The dog can't be rehomed - the people whos kids tormented and screamed at the dog to fetch the leg reported it to the police and they've already been out. The rehoming centers won't touch her with a barge pole (My sister did try believe me) and you have to legally disclose that sort of information.0
