Sister got a dog....Update

If "its poops are runny" I recommend you tell your sister to include some food-grade diatomaceous earth in its diet ASAP. You can buy it online from anywhere that sells hen supplies. It's a natural de-wormer and unlike chemical de-wormers it is cheap, does not harm the dog, and will not be sicked back up (my dog sicks up chemical wormers). Very MSE and keeps pets worm-free. You can buy a huge tub for about £30 or £40 and it will last AGES.
You just mix it into food (make sure it is mixed with water or something wet because if it's given dry it will be inhaled and that's not good for the lungs). Dogs don't mind eating it because it doesn't really taste of anything other than mud, and most dogs are happy to eat mud! Dosage is approximate but I'd say a collie that size would need about a tablespoon a day split between meals.
Note: if you do decide to use it, unlike the worm poisons the vet gives you, DE needs to be given on a daily basis and must be consistent. It's not a one-off treatment. It's an ongoing supplement but it has loads of benefits other than keeping dogs worm-free.0 -
Just a little tip. You should never have to trim a dog's nails.
All you need to do is to take them a good walk on the pavement, this will file them down to the right lengthI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Took the husky to meet Callie, on neutral ground went to the beach, they were fine to begin with, jumping on each other and playing, but soon as I held the husky on the lead, Callie went nutso, she seems to be incredibly jealous of me which is odd as Im there infrequently and not everyday! It's not my bed she is sleeping on, she ended up going for the husky visciously, and my ex stupidly put his hand between them and got nipped but didnt break the skin, but I noticed lyla (the husky) had some blood on her fur but I think it came from Callies gums.
So they won't be meeting again for a while! She's a big soft lump and used to live with a dog so no idea why she went a bit beserk!0 -

Maybe because she is in season? Maybe some of the playing was sorting out pecking order and you missed some of the body language?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
The husky deffo had dominence, as although my dog reading skills are incredibily basic and probably non exsistent lol, Callie kept being submissive and lying down. It was just later on she started getting a bit more bolshy and snarly. Before that there was no snarling or ears pinned back etc.
Yeah I've put it down to season/new environment/new dog/probably 1st time on a beach/thinking Im treat lady lol.
Going up with some shampoo for her on Wed, as she really does honk, incidentally the husky when I took it home decided to roll in other dog diarrhea, I actually did throw up. Give me my cats any day lol.0 -

We used to have a Westie that rolled in cow pats. _pale_ My cat will roll in dirty underwear given half the chance so she is just as disgusting!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Depends on the dog.
I have two that do exactly the same walks every day, one has never needed his nails clipped but the other needs them doing every few weeks.0 -
Dogs can behave a lot differently on-lead so that can often be when issues arise. There's some great cartoons of dog body language by an artist called Lili Chin

One of my dogs lacks a bit of manners and doesn't know quite how to interact with other dogs (lack of socialisation as a pup I think, not sure if he's had a bad experience with other dogs or just didn't learn how to communicate properly) so it would be several walks with both dogs on-lead and only interacting minimally (first walk I'd be letting him look, and rewarding him for good body language/moving away from the dog, second walk I might let him sniff at the dog every once in a while but loads of praise if he walks away, third walk I might let them interact more frequently, etc.), it's always better to go too slow than too fast because dogs can really bear a grudge once they've had a fight. And my other dog has been known to get a bit protective of her best buddy and get grumpy when another dog tries to play with him, she'll interupt and tell the other dog off, despite getting along really well with that other dog if she was there on her own - so funny how different factors can affect how a dog interacts with other dogs! I think it was probably a case of too much, too soon for her and would just take it as a learning curve to go slower next time. If you can find plenty of friendly dogs to take her out with (but like I say, keep interactions minimal and positive), it will help her relax around other dogs and learn the right ways to act around them.0 -
Yeah, it was when Lyla the husky was back on her lead she started going beserk, before that I hadn't been holding her lead either, my ex had been. Its interesting reading how your dog is though Krylyr, they definatley are a lot more in depth than I thought (dogs) .
Will wait until Callie is completely off season (my sister tells me today there hasn't been any specks of blood on the floor/or yesterday) and perhaps neutered before introducing them again. Although Lylas in my bad books for rolling in diarrhea and eating it  Wow I feel sick again ....0 -

Hahahahaha. Haven't caught any of my 3 doing that yet, although when on the loo the kitten will stick his head between my knicker legs and yowl up at me, I haven't a clue what he wants but he's one of those shouty cats anyways....but he is gross lol.0
