Sister got a dog....Update

Visited today, my sister was out in town, was just my mum in. Walked in and the dog wet itself (???) and then wet itself again when I stroked her, I thought she mebbe needed a wee so I put her out the front on tied to the fence and for about 5minutes everytime i stroked her she forced out a dribble - After this she was totally fine!
Is that normal???0 -
A lot of dogs do this (especially females) because of excitement at seeing you. If you go OTT on greeting the dog even more so.
Please don't punish the dog, just either meet outside, or make yourself less exciting.
I would have said normally they grow out of it after 2 - 3 years, but next doors sons spaniel will still leave a little puddle now and then if my daughter greets her, and even tries to sit on your feet.
(ooh how I remember the time I was in open toed sandals, and ended up squelching around in dog wee).0 -
My last spaniel wee'd on greeting, but she didn't have a problem if her bum wasn't on the floor. Confused? Yes, so were we.:)Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -
Oh no definatly didn't punish her and to be honest I didn't even greet the dog as I came in as my daughter and her pal had pushed in infront of me and were spilling juice all over the place haha. She never wet herself when I went to visit yesterday, so yeah probably was just excitement!
:rotfl: Mrsatobe, bet you tried to get her standing almost always hehe.
Woman across the roads male dog hasn't been done and he's very annoying as he keeps escaping to get to the dog (she just must be finishing her season now I'd guess) Will he still keep pestering her if she's not in heat? He can't reach her anyways but keeps leaving errr dog juice all over the place ewwwww.0 -
I hope Advocate protects against lungworm - we have a lot of slugs in our area so took the dog to the vet to get him protected against them, and that's exactly what she sold us.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

I hope Advocate protects against lungworm - we have a lot of slugs in our area so took the dog to the vet to get him protected against them, and that's exactly what she sold us.
The slight confusion can often occur when trying to differentiate between preventative and treatment. There is no preventative for lungworm - they've either got it or not, but if you regularly treat with Advocate then you are treating any undiagnosed infestation. There is no preventative product, just Panacur and Advocate to treat infestations, and Milbemax to reduce (but not completely treat) them.
This is why in high-risk areas, many people choose to use Advocate on a monthly basis - basically you're assuming the dog is constantly picking up lungworm (because if the slugs in the area have it, there's nothing you can do to stop that) and you're treating it over and over before the infestation can get severe enough to cause permanent damage. Also, you need to give two consecutive doses to fully treat an infestation (one dose will kill the majority but not 100%)
So if you treated your dog on January 1st, you know it's going to be at least 90% lungworm-free. However, January 10th, 15th, 29th - it could still have a small infestation, or it could contract lungworm again. So you dose on February 1st and you've now treated it completely. But again, Feb 15th, 20th, etc. it could eat another infected slug and pick it up again - so by using Advocate on March 1st, you've done two consecutive treatments (1st Feb and 1st March) and treated the dog fully again.
Some people don't want or like to treat with so many chemicals so may choose to do it less often - e.g. 3 or 4 times a year instead of 12. It is important to remember the 2-dose issue though, so for example you'd want to do 1st Jan and 1st Feb, then 1st May and 1st June, 1st September and 1st October, and so on. Others may even just treat once a year - so two doses in 'peak' slug season (which is usually winter but with the weather we've been having lately it may vary!)0 -

Sometimes they wee when they get excited, as she may have been on seeing you.
Try her on CSJ dry food, if you check out their website they'll send you some good sized samples. My female dog used to have the most horrendous loose poos if she went anywhere near wet food but the CSJ sorted her out AND helped her joint stiffness too.
It works out just £1 a kilo delivered...you get two 15kg bags delivered for £30 and it's excellent quality.0 -
Thought I'd update this:
This dog has loads of issues, like really really bad. It does not like men (most men) my stepdad offered it a treat and it practically crawled across the floor shaking to get it, then did a lap of the living room weeing herself everywhere, she still wee's in the house often, especially when someone comes in, male or female, i said her name and she cowered and peed all around the kitchen then went and lay down in the living room.
She does not like scooters/bicycles/hula hoops, terrified, kids at the local shop were zooming past her on the scooters on purpose to scare her and then saying she tried to bite them (she had a face halti thing so couldnt of anyways) so I had a go at them for doing that to the dog -
She now seems to hate ALL dogs.
On Sunday, she bit a child - the situation went like this: My idiotic sister does not walk that dog hardly ever, it clearly needs to go to the vet as its licked a bald bit off inside its leg, I want to punch her in the mouth - but, she let my 8yr old sister take the dog over to her friends house, these people had a dog put down this year apparently because the kids were horrid too it and it tried to bite them - anyways apparently my younger sisters friend was swinging his young sister around and shouting at the dog to fetch fetch fetch, which it obviously did - now it didn't chomp her, it bruised her skin - no bleeding, so the dog was obviously just trying to fetch and not bite - cue narked off parents - understandably so, but it really is a combination of their child screaming at the dog to fetch his sisters leg as he waved it in the dogs face. They didn't phone the police anyways, but it was looking like death row.
Anyways, it can't be rehomed - no-one will take on a dog that pees everywhere, and appears to be snappy, hates men, hates wheels etc etc.
It *needs* the vet, I would take it myself but I don't have ££££ to pay for something that is her responsibility, her excuse is she doesn't wanna take it on the bus, it would be fine on the bus with his face thing on, it would probably snooze. No rescue home will take it because of it's issues - she has been trying to pawn it off since she lost interest *sigh*0 -
Oh and I would take the dog myself but I live in a flat and she barks when the door goes so I couldn't have her, and despite her fetching that childs leg, I'll still let my daughter around her because I know she isnt an aggressive dog, she's such a soppy sod, she needs someone to show her who's in charge.
For instance I can walk that dog anywhere off lead because I use authority in my voice and the dog seriously does love me, probably because I interact with it, it doesn't wanna be alone, it loves human company, all the dog loves is a cuddle and to fetch her little tennis ball - it breaks my heart that despite me pleading and demanding she will not look after it properly - she's a lazy lazy bleeping bleep.
I do qualify for PDSA as does my sister, so I could theoretically take the dog and just say it is mine but it feels really unethical but then the dog clearly has some medical issue as to why its licking its foof constantly. Plus SOME monies will need to be paid (it totally needs neutered too) and quite frankly she should be using her income to pay for it - AHHHHH I hate her so much.
She does not think, she is an impuslive self absorbed tw*t. I love that dog!!!0 -

Give her a deadline then report her to the RSPCA.
Don't leave it to long though as the dog is obviously suffering.
No one this self absorbed or irresponsible should have a dog!0
