If they call again, have a video device (phone would do) handy or something which can at least record the conversation.

The conversation would consist of "This debt is denied, under Office of Fair Trading guidelines you need to refer this back to your client and desist from this harassment. Now **** off or I will call the police"

I'll let you replace the asterisks with a suitable word of your choice.

In the meantime, send a copy of the letter to the Office of Fair Trading and complain in the strongest possible terms that their actions are a clear breach of guidelines on Debt Collection and you want the OfT to take action against them. Point out that this is in respect of an unenforceable alleged debt, for which no court claim has been received and no court judgement exists.

Write to the University and put them on notice that any more contact from this company will constitute harassment under the Protection From Harassment Act 1997 and you will take legal action against the University who you hold jointly and severally liable for the actions of their agents, Car Parking Partnership.

Thanks ManxRed for the positive and practical response.

Interestingly, my wife said she found the letter stuffed in the letter box when she got up at 6am. Seems it was delivered "overnight" with probably no intention of knocking???

There are a few threads about this on here already. People are reporting CPP and PS&P to the DVLA and the BPA and the OFT, Trading Standards (you name it!). This looks to me as if they are impersonating bailiffs which is illegal. Do as ManxRed says if they do call again - threaten to call the Police & give them 2 seconds to get lost.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Hi all, just to confirm we haven't had anyone show up, but if they ever did we'd call the police and tell them to p*** off!

Why, what have the police done to deserve that? :rotfl:

Thanks for coming back with the update.
  • I've been following this trail of letters with interest as CPP/ PS&P are under the impression that I owe them some money, too. :rotfl:

However, a new letter today, and I'm rather concerned about it, as they say that "LEGAL ACTION [their caps] through the County Court is about to start". Surely they would have to let me know more details than this if they were taking me to court? This is just another of their ploys, isn't it, and I should still keep ignoring? If this was going to court, what stages would need to be followed?

Just looking for a little reassurance! Thanks.

As a third party they cannot actually bring a court claim.

It would need to be Parking Company as an agent of [Name of Landowner] v You.

Even then you could shoot it down in flames.

Dodgy Debt Collector v You is a complete no no and they'd be verging on contempt of court under the Legal Services Act.

Its all hot air, continue ignoring.

Just another link in the threatogram chain.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • Would be good to get scans of these PS&P letters onto the PPC Letter Chains thread, which is a 'sticky' at the top of this sub-board. Scan these onto a free account at Photobucket or similar and Private Message the links to the Board Mod, Crabman.

Others will supply more details if the above is not clear, as I have only tried this the once myself, some time ago.

  • I've just checked, and my letter is the same as the one posted today on the other thread (can't post links yet):

    forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=57994761&postcount=87

Interestingly, my letter appeared to have the document filename appended in the bottom right-hand corner, and was called 'Scheme Stage PS&P\Debt Final Notice v2'. I wonder if this means we've reached the end of the letters? Or perhaps there's a 'Final Final Notice' yet to come...
