I'm 49 and never wear make up ever.
I can't stand the feel of anything on my face.
I've walked through department stores where they offer make up demonstrations and been stared at as if I had 2 heads when I said I never use it.
It's probably because I don't use it that I think it all looks so false, especially young girls who have orange faces and a solid line where it stops.

    I think that's a bit patronising. :)

I'm in the 'older' category and not patronised at all, I'm in full agreement.

I have no eyebrows nowadays (thanks to nature, not over-plucking), and blotches round my jawline. Also a shiny nose unless I use pressed powder. Due to wearing light foundation, concealer, powder and drawn-on eyebrows I need to put on blusher and lipstick too or I look weird. Admittedly I don't do eye make-up as it always smudges, and anyway I don't have much in the way of lashes either.

I wouldn't answer the door without my eyebrows and a powdered nose. Have been known to hide behind the door curtain to sign for a parcel delivery! :rotfl:
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

What I don't get are the people who say that they can't leave the house without putting on make-up - like they wouldn't nip to the shops or go and pick up the kids from school without caking it on. Fine, if you want to go out to work or out on the town with some make-up on, but unless you have some physical disfigurement I don't see the need to put it on routinely, and it suggests a deep-routed insecurity to me.

So if someones got a physical disfigurement they should wear makeup? Thats a bit offensive, who says people with disfigurements should cover them up? Its not an insecurity, its just a lot of women tend to feel they look better with make up.

Oh come on, you're telling me there's no outside pressure or external influences that lead women to feel they should be wearing makeup?

If its completely an individual choice, why do no men suddenly decide to wear a touch of foundation or a sweep of mascara just to brighten their eyes or even out their skin tone?

Its possible there is a bit but most over 25’s will wear less make up (or have it more natural looking) rather than the obvious look of lots of make up.

As I said in another post, my housemate wears a lot of make up and probably 50% of that reason is because she works with the general public – however, she doesn’t look as if she is wearing loads as she wears very natural colours.

I certainly feel no pressure to wear make-up which is why its only of a weekend I might wear a bit of eye make-up. The only daily item that I wear is lip balm and that’s because I cant stand my lips feeling dry.

As for men wearing make-up – why stop there? Why not ask why they don’t wear skirts or dresses or perfume?! Its because these items are designed for women (though Im sure there are plenty of men about who wear them behind closed doors and even some who wear them in public).

Ah yes, there is a young lass on Emmerdale who has an obvious orange mark along her jawline... thanks to her, I always make sure I blend! :D

Here's the thing, lots of younger people have less than perfect skin and feel more comfortable covering up with makeup, and lots of older people are perfectly comfortable wearing none or very little.

That comment came off as a bit "You'll come round to my way of thinking when you grow up."
