I may be completely wrong here, but OP's original post and subsequent replies really do seem as though the purpose of the thread is to make her feel good about herself and to run down those who wear makeup all the time.... just sayin'.

I don't wear it every day and do leave the house without it (I put it on when I get to work), I feel it's the final part of my routine. When my makeup is done I feel ready to tackle whatever the day throws at me. Having said that I don't wear tons.

Yes you ARE wrong. I was asking a question that's all and TBH I don't come on this forum to feel good about myself.

I don't even own foundation never mind wear it!! I'll wear a touch of concealer day-to-day as my eyes are quite dark. At the weekend I'll stick on a wee bit of eyeshadow and mascara, but that's it. I use a wee touch of fake tan on my face every few days so I don't look quite so ill all the time! :D

I used to work for Vie at Home and felt I 'had' to wear makeup as I was selling the stuff! Hated the feel of it on my face and couldn't wait to get it off again!! Decided then I'd ditch the makeup and 'advertise' their skincare instead :rotfl:

It's really everyone's personal preference. I know some girls who won't leave their bedroom without their full face on - my partner's 16 year old daughter for one! Even those with 'perfect' skin like to wear makeup.

:rotfl:afraid I had to look him (Elliot Cowan) up, didn't know who he was but hmm yes, very nice, especially with hair/a wig!:D I was [STRIKE]fantasising [/STRIKE] thinking more about Gerard Way, Jacoby Shaddix etc but maybe I need to broaden my horizons :D

eta not sure I'll broaden them as far as Timothy Spall though, eyeliner or no eyeliner :D

:rotfl:yes maybe a tad too far...I'm blaming my age!!

Oh yes, Gerard Way is hot (not so keen on the Jacoby guy) and can't leave out Billie Joe and Jared Leto!

I'm not denying I might wear it more often as I get older or that my habits may change.

My skin isn't perfect but it is REALLY pale lol so most make up bases are wayyyyyyyyy too dark and look a bit daft.

And I wasn't trying to be mean to folk that wear it (indeed I like a bit of eyeliner on my men too) but it's hard being made to feel like an alien for NOT wearing lots of make-up.

Who makes you feel like this? Do you work in a profession where a certain 'look' is expected?

You say you weren't being mean but your comments early on seemed very judgemental - perhaps you are (subconsciously) treating them with the same disdain that you feel you are receiving from them. Are you sending them bad vibes because of your perceptions of them?

What is there not to get ? You could ask the same about why people feel the need to brush their hair everyday or wear jewellery? They do it because they enjoy the routine, it has became the norm for them, it makes them feel good or they just enjoy drawing on their face etc!

I love a bit of dark red lipstick, I wear it rarerly but that doesn't mean that I can't understand those that spend some time painting their face everyday. It doesn't make you a better nor a prettier person to say that you don't get why people wear cosmetics.

That's fair enough, some of your comments ridiculing the ladies in your office with 'caked' on makeup and perfume just sounded a bit catty.

Apologise for that, didn't mean to be catty.

Nah they aren't mean just seem to regard me as an oddity and think the things I like are weird. Then agin they think OH is weird for not liking football/motor racing etc

I read it to be that way too. Most people I know over 25 wear make up because they want to rather than because that’s how they feel society tells them to.

Oh come on, you're telling me there's no outside pressure or external influences that lead women to feel they should be wearing makeup?

If its completely an individual choice, why do no men suddenly decide to wear a touch of foundation or a sweep of mascara just to brighten their eyes or even out their skin tone?

No it is factual and since I get hassle from them for the fact I'm NOT wearing it I feel fully justified in saying so.

Again can I say I'm curious but not down on anyone for wearing/not wearing it. Just wondered that's all!

Also got comments for not having polished nails (maybe beacuse I spend my at home time chopping wood, gardening, playing with kids/animals etc :j)

Are you assuming because someone has polished nails they don't play with their children or garden? I polish/manicure my nails one to two times a week, wear nail polish daily, I have four children, I play, I garden, I scrub the house, I'm not afraid to get dirty.

For the record I also wear make up EVERY day.

I only ever bother with makeup if I'm going out somewhere. I don't think I put on lots though. BB cream, eyeliner, mascara and some blush. Takes 5mins. I wear the same amount when I'm out clubbing too.

Each to their own, when I start college in Aug, I will no doubt be applying makeup for the first week, get bored of it quickly and just rock in in my usual 9am state.
