You paint such a lovely picture. :D

I've thanked that just in case it was a compliment! :rotfl:

Btw I do let my husband see me in all my undisguised glory - definitely couldn't be bothered to get up early, especially as he's usually up about 6.00! Anyway he uses concealer when he gets a cold sore.

My fianc! says I look much better without make up and to be honest I feel better without it, and means less to do before going to bed!

On the rare occasions I do wear makeup (weddings, nights out, etc.) I never bother taking it off before bed as I've usually had a few drinks and can't be bothered.

The view in the mirror the next morning is, er, interesting!

Its always a decoration, its decoration that some people use to improve on what they see as imperfections. The fact that you think you look ill with your natural skin colour doesn't make it true I'm afraid, it just means that's your perception of your appearance.

Its never a default or an essential.

I have no problem with you as an individual wearing it (even though I do have serious issues with makeup on a more general level) so please don't decide for me that I should be wearing it.

Pardon??? I wouldn't dream of telling anyone else what to do.

As for "my perception..." - one day I was dashing out and forgot to put my blusher on. I bumped into a neighbour, who remarked "you look tired today". Coincidence?

I wear full make up every day - even to go to the shops because, frankly, I'm a dog without it! I'm also a bit of a dog with it but hey ho......

Although my friends and workmates tell me that it doesn't look like I wear make up as it's quite subtle. Despite being the full works.

It sounds to me like you choose foundation that suits the tone of your skin, and that you put it on properly. This is a good look! So many of the ladies selling cosmetics in department stores look like they have put their make-up on with a trowel and that puts me right off taking advice from them! Someone wearing exactly the same amount of make up as you but wearing a foundation that is too dark for their skin tone can look like they have put it on too thickly. This is what I don't understand, why go to the bother of putting on make up but choose to wear something that doesn't suit? Make up is supposed to enhance the face rather than be a mask.

My story....when I was young and slim I loved make up and wore the works. People used to tell me that they really liked my make up. (NB this actually meant that it was the wrong colour for me, if I'd been told I looked really well that would have meant my foundation was the correct colour for me). However one boss decided to cut me down to the ground and told me that she hated seeing me without make up because she knew right away that I was in bad mood. I therefore never wore it again.
  • I wear make-up most days (if I'm just having a day at home and only likely to do a supermarket run for milk then I won't bother). However, I think there is a difference between wearing make-up every day and looking like you're wearing a lot of make-up, if that makes sense. If I were to list the products I use every day it'd probably be quite shocking to some people, but I tend to wear quite natural colours (unless I'm going out for the evening) and stuff that isn't too 'heavy' so I don't think it looks too much. Although of course there are probably people who would look at me and think the opposite!

As to why I wear it, it sounds a bit naff but it makes me feel better about myself - if my dark circles are particularly bad or I have a mammoth spot for instance. For me, a lot of it was also about learning what suited me and which products were good as well. I didn't wear make-up at all until I started sixth form (I had rubbish self-esteem as a teenager and thought I wasn't 'pretty' enough for it) and then only started to wear a bit of mascara and lip balm because things like bright lipstick terrified me, but once I learned what lipsticks suited my colouring and how to apply them and what kind of eye make-up to do I found it a lot easier, and now bright lippy is my go-to going out look. Ditto finding the right foundation as I'm very pale and a lot of foundations were just too dark or the formulas were rubbish.

Oh, and I paint my nails as well, but that's because I like having brightly coloured nails more than anything else, and also I find it weirdly relaxing - I do it on a Saturday morning when OH is having a lie-in and it's a nice little bit of me-time.

So if someones got a physical disfigurement they should wear makeup? Thats a bit offensive, who says people with disfigurements should cover them up? Its not an insecurity, its just a lot of women tend to feel they look better with make up.
That is not what I said at all.

I just think it tremendously sad that some people are so insecure that they won't even answer the door without their full slap on.

I stated that it wasn't an essential, you seemed to be arguing that sometimes it is. If you don't think its an essential then fair enough.

The reason people make comments like that is because they are so used to you wearing make up they don't know what you actually look like underneath it all!

I hardly ever wear it, I'm no supermodel but nobody tells me I look ill or tired unless I'm actually ill or tired, because they know what I look like, they know this is how pale I really am!

See my very first post on the thread.

I can't be bothered to wear make up everyday and personally I prefer the natural look anyway. I find it funny when I see magazine articles where the writer is challenged to go without makeup for a week and writes about how difficult it is because I could easily go without makeup for a month or more!

OTOH my housemate wears make up every time she leaves the house because she has very red skin she was bullied about when she was younger. With make up it's not noticeable at all but without it she's still beautiful so I think it's sad she feels she has to go through all that hassle.
