You are all missing the point, which is that we are women, so as with all things appearance wise, we are damned if we do, damned if we don't.

too much make up, the subtext is we are insecure harpies who care more about our appearance than politics or our families or sleep

not enough make up we have committed the worst sin of them all 'letting ourselves go'

So as with most things we have to make as much effort as it takes to make it look like we've made no effort at all, so that we are beyond reproach to other women like the OP and her workmates.

You said that you didn't wear nail varnish because you were too busy chopping wood,, playing with kids and animals etc which, when flipped, could be seen to *imply* that those that do wear nail varnish are forfeiting those activities in order to paint their nails.

To be fair, she didn't say it was because she was too busy. I just read it as her stating that her hobbies/activities were quite intensive on the hands and there's no point painting them - stuff like gardening, playing with kids, chopping wood, etc. are quite likely to chip off nail varnish, I certainly don't bother that regularly because it takes one dog walk and I've got dirt under my nails and chips in the nail varnish :rotfl:

I wear it because without it I look ill. I'm not ill but my skin is sallow coloured and my eyes are dark. I get fed up of people saying I look tired when i'm not. I do go some days without make-up and i'll nip to the local shops without any on, so it's not like i'm obsessed with wearing it. Makes me look (slightly) better, or maybe it just makes me look not so bad lol

I don't, and never have, worn make-up during the day - except when I was nearing the end of my pregnancy. My midwives were considering putting me on iron tablets because without make-up on I looked (to them) anaemic. So from that appointment on, every time I was going to see my midwife I put a bit of foundation and blusher on.

Its the only time anyone has ever mentioned that I look pale or ill without make-up.

I'm also in the CBA camp with any make-up on a daily basis, but on the flip side, I know I look healthier with a light tan and a bit of mascara. If I could BA, I'd probably do that regularly.

eta - I don't count nail polish as make-up. If we're counting that, then I do wear it daily - on my toenails. I don't like my toenails bare, prefer a bright colour on them.

It can just come across as quite judgemental. It's like saying "I have perfect skin, I'm so confident, why aren't the rest of you?"

Do you think so? I hope it doesn't come off as judgemental that I don't wear any make-up on a daily basis. I don't have perfect skin, or perfect eyebrows, or perfect lips. I just CBA with it :D.

    What's BB cream?

It means "Blemish Balm". It's like a foundation, but also has skincare properties. Wiki

There is a 25 mile long thread about BB cream on here...link It's in the "Health, Beauty and Fashion Moneysaving" forum.

I think tea lover was referring to the opening post, balletshoes, not the act of wearing no make up itself.

I wear make up when I've got my contact lenses in so when I'm going into the office, or for a night out, but when I'm working from home or on weekends I tend to wear my glasses and not bother with make up. I've always worn make up for work, I just wouldn't feel right going in without it, it would feel like I was walking in naked!

I do look better with make up on, but unless I need to, I'm in the CBA camp with balletshoes, and like her, know I look better with a light tan and mascara or with my eyelashes dyed. Without it, my eyes recede into my face as my eyelashes are fair.
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!

I get a bit exasperated with people who say they'd rather have the few extra minutes in bed to be honest - what difference is 5 mins going to make to you? I get this with my boys. Then again I hate wasting time sleeping and am up at 5.30am most mornings.

and thats the difference right there - I'm definitely a bed-lover, and an extra 5 minutes (with the alarm clock on snooze) is lovely to me :).

I use No 7 BB Cream - its a blemish balm classed as a multi-tasker that combine skincare ingredients with moisturiser, primer, foundation and SPF, it seems to blend to my natural skintone for that no make up look, its fab!!
