It sounds like confidence affects make up usage, which is affected by self perception as to ones' own relative beauty and features. Generally though, I think a lot of people either like or dislike make up.

I'm not keen on obvious make up, certainly not during the day. I don't put make up on daily and only wear very natural make up when I do.

My main issue with make up, is I really dislike the way foundations feel and look on my skin. I never wear it, having tried several and not coming across anything that looks remotely natural to me. I'm lucky with my skin, but puzzled at why I can't find a foundation of any kind, that vaguely matches my skin colour. Does anyone else have this issue? I would quite like to pull off a flawless but natural look every once in a while. :-) I'm also aware that I'm not getting any younger and that most people in their 40's wear foundation.

I generally don't bat an eyelid at makeup worn by others, although bright red lipstick does scream for attention.

Really? It is in our house; for all 4 of us!

We all get up to separate alarms, which are set to the time we need to leave the house minus how long it takes to get ready (& chivvy others along to be ready on time!) I'm fairly sure that's how it works in most households during the working week.

I have to have loose powder on top of my foundation, otherwise I wouldn't feel it looked right. Agree that it is very difficult to find face base that suits typically English pale complexions - I do wonder why manufacturers don't seem to realise that some of us are naturally ghostly white. I don't use a great deal, just a dab here and there which I blend in, then apply a very fair coloured concealer where necessary. Top off with translucent or extra fair powder for a matt, "porcelain" finish.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I have come to the conclusion that I move at a snail pace in the morning! :rotfl:Got up a bit earlier this morning, to have a shower and blow dry my hair - took me an hour and 10 mins to get ready!

I know I can get ready quicker if needed, but unless I have a meeting scheduled at 9am, there isn't much need for me to rush as we have flexi time at work. So long as I make up the time at the end of the day, or at lunch, it's fine for me to be 10-15 mins late every now and then. A luxury, I admit.

I don't own any of the compact things, as I read somewhere that applying make up with a sponge wasn't very hygeinic. It was better to use a brush. Not sure if that's true, but I find it easier to clean the brush and I prefer the finish I get with it. I'm also pasty pale, so it's hard to find a shade that matches my skin colour. Once I have, I tend to stick to it like glue! lol

I don't use a liquid eyeliner either. Tried once. That was......interesting! :rotfl:Not where my skills lie! I have a kohl pencil (I think it is) from.......er.......virgin vie I think. It's well old, but it has a soft foamy thing on the other end to blend it a bit. :D

Never been able to find a good mascara that doesn't run or make my eyes itch (took me years to find an eyeliner that stayed put!), so I just use an 'OK' one, and then use the curler.

I'm less bothered about my ears now. Occasionally someone comments on how they look, but it doesn't bother me anymore. I'm more accepting of myself these days.

One of my brothers, and my eldest sister also had it done (before me), and they were really pleased with the results. My eldest brother has big ears too, but he's never cared, and my other sister was the only one to get away without them! One of my neices was born with them though, and the doctors now suggest that they were a headband on them for the first few weeks (or something like that), in order to get them to naturally sit back against the head. But, you know, babies move around a lot so that thing never stayed in place! He ears do tend to stick out a little now (she's 9), but she doesn't seem to notice or care. I just hope the kids at secondary school don't pick on her for it. That's when it seemed to start with me and my siblings. Primary school kids don't seem to give a monkeys (thankfully).

If I had to wash my hair in the morning then I could spend an hour and a half getting ready easily, so thats why I do it the night before! :)

I normally apply foundation with my fingers, because I use a liquid one, but recently Ive been using this No.7 one which comes with a sponge, and ive taken a liking to it. I tend to use a bit of both. Its definitely good for doing touch ups with at least because its so fast and all in the one compact with a mirror.

This morning I looked at the time on my phone because although I was pretty sure I did my make up in about 5 mins I wanted to check. I did it at my normal pace, and including putting moisturiser on and letting that sink in for a little bit, and cleasing my face, the whole thing took 7 minutes. So it would have been around 5 for my make up I would think.

I think the longest time Ive ever spent putting make up on was for my wedding day, I think it took me around 20-30 mins, because I was being extremely careful with my eye make up and putting more on that normal, and plucking eye brows etc and being super perfect about it. And I remember thinking it was suuuuch a long time when I was done. So I definitely cant imagine doing that every day :rotfl:

It took me ages to find a mascara that doesnt smudge throughout the day, going from some recommendations on here I now use Bobbi Brown No Smudge and it works really well. Expensive but better than panda eyes I figure! I have a falsh lash one from Maybelline for nights out, but would never wear that in the day.

I'm a champion sleeper in the mornings. Seriously.

I don't find it easy to get to sleep. I often wake up during the night and can't get back to sleep. I don't know (or care) if I'm technically an insomniac or not.

I do know that, come morning, I will squeeze every last possible minute out of the available sleeping/snooze time.

Yet, I still manage to swish some make-up onto the old phizzog. Often while I'm waiting for the kettle to boil and the toaster to 'ping'.

I know I could be doing dishes during that time - but there are limits!

I have a really bad habit of pressing snooze once and then once the alarm goes again, I mean to get up, but actually fall asleep again!

Then thank goodness, I wake up about 20 mins later normally. But its not exactly good because I could easily wake up 2 hours later and be very late for work!

So Im trying to actually get up now when my alarm goes off to prevent that happening.

I also find it very hard to fall asleep. Its frustrating because I know how tired I will be in the morning.

At the moment I also have a bad habit of getting up late, then watching news on the tv and then getting ready at the last possible moment. I definitely dont start to get ready any second before I really have to.

I haven't read the thread, but I wear make up every day. I prefer the way my face looks with it on so I choose to wear it. Simple.

    Same here........
