I wear make up because i love it ! I dont wear every day if staying in, but to go out, i do wear mineral foundation as it protects my skin, also use concealer under my eyes.
It takes 2 minutes, it makes me feel good.

Are we still talking about false nails?
No. I'm still talking about nail enhancements.

All you've done is pick and choose the bits that suit so you can make barbed comments to try and score one over and belittle.

Just curious and maybe it's because if I ever wear it it's of the goth variety but why do so many folk wear make up every single day? I don't bother, I like my face the way it is added to which I've always found that an extra few minutes cuddled up to my OH is more fun :rotfl:

Not being nasty just really interested in why some people seem to feel the need to wear it all day, every day...................
Well Im 45 and blue eyed blonde eybrows and eyelashes and fair skinned and I need the everyday makeup to look presentable.

I get told I look tired if I dont and I love wearing light makeup anyway. Sometimes the false eyelashes and strong makeup is not suitable for day way but some women do wear it.

I feel great without makeup in the house but I like to wear it.

I think Zaxdog's smarting from some criticism from women who are overly groomed, and feeling that her way of life was being attacked by those people, and wondering if anyone else thinks that women who are excessively made-up don't actually look very good.

I used to have these arguments with my sister when we were teenagers. We missed half of a swimming session once because I was forced to wait for her while she put thick make-up all over her face. When I pointed out that it would get washed off as soon as she went underwater her reply was that she still had to walk down there! We were like chalk and cheese, still are. She has false nails, HD brows, false eyelashes inserted somehow (I don't want to think about that!) and probably spends an equivalent amount to my mortgage at the salon when hair, tanning and waxing is included. I'd rather pay the mortgage.

She'd rather look the way she does, and she looks at me and thinks yuck, why don't you DO something with yourself!

We are more polite to each other than we used to be though :) If I'd had the internet back when we were teenagers I'd probably have ranted about it, and probably so would she :D

Not smarting honest as we get on very well even though we are very different types of people.
  • Actually, i quite like the notion of wearing make-up, and i even occasionally buy it when i'm feeling flush. That said, i never actually get around to applying the stuff. Ohh No.
I'll wake up and think...I'll make an effort today, and then lie there pondering what outfit, what shoes, what colours on my eyes.....then i generally find it all a bit overwhelming and nod off again.

Upon waking again, i get up, shower, shove on whatever happens to be at the top of the basket of ironing, ram my feet into the same boots i wear every day, drag my fingers through my curly mop and stagger off to meet the day.

    One day, though.....one day.....

If i'm having a "can't be bothered" day or i'm not planning on leaving the house I won't bother with makeup-but when i'm going somewhere, or meeting up with someone i do put on make-up, though it only takes me 5 mins to do.

I used to wear it ALL the time, i couldn't ;leave the house without it, it was like some kind of armour for me. But as i've gotten older I've found i don't care quite as much.

  • For anyone who's said they're not confident about putting make-up on, I would like to recommend Sali Hughes' videos on the Guardian website - she's their resident beauty columnist and has loads of useful tips on things like putting on eye make-up and lipstick and choosing the right colours/formulas etc. I bang on about her a *lot* but I really have learned a lot from her columns and videos and it's made me a lot more confident about doing slightly more complex things with my make-up, whereas before it looked like I'd let me two-year-old nephew put it on me

Link for anyone who wants it: http://www.guardian.co.uk/fashion/series/sali-hughes-beauty

Although I should add that far be it from me to tell anyone to wear make-up so please don't take this as me saying that, just in case anyone did want some tips!

i dont wear make up, i think i used to wear it when i was at school, mostly red lips, big hair and some eye liner but luckily i have always had goodish skin

i sometimes wear it if we're out for the evening but i dont know why to be honest, im always left feeling that i look better without it

another strange thing is that when i wear make up, i get a headache, i dont feel like myself, i feel like im under pressure to have a face that isnt mine

in the summer, i look worse as i think that a tan ages me, i prefer my face in the winter. however what i would like to know is that people have mentioned foundation and concealer on here for acne and spots. i dont have acne but if i have a small spot, i find that make up makes it more visible because the little bits of dry skin around it, which no matter how much i exfoliate dont disappear completely, show up in the foundation or concealer, how do you prevent this. i often see it on other women, they have make up on, and the spots are more visible. its slightly less visible with just powder on its own.

i have another problem that my neck is a different colour to my face, especially in the summer. my chin (double chin bit) is also very red due to me having a lot of facial hair (pcos) which i either have to pluck out or shave it off which leaves it irritated. i dont seem to be able to find something that covers this but blends with the same colour of the rest of my neck and then my face which is a different colour!

hence why i dont really bother!

I do wear make up most days but it's very natural, just powder, blusher and mascara. I am very fair and without it, I look a bit washed out. At weekends I put on tinted moisturiser as well and if I go out in the evenings I wear eyeshadow.

I think some people look good with a lot of make up on, but if I wear too much I feel like a clown.
