egg ppi cheque time

  • I have just discovered the same thing. I called them on 18th Sept to chase my cheque for the 2nd time. The first time they told me that there had been a problem with the company who generates the cheques and they didn't know how long it would take to get resolved. The 2nd time I was told the issues had now been resolved but that they were working their way through a huge backlog. I was told that all outstanding cheques would have been sent out by first class that Friday. Predictably I still haven't had anything.

When I tried to call today I find that they've changed the options on the phone number given on our letters so we can no longer talk to anyone. Why does this feel like they're just trying to hold on to the money a little longer???

When I spoke to them on 18th I complained that my interest was calculated up to a certain date and that these delays are losing me money every single day. They told me that I would be put on a list to have my interest recalculated due to the delay and that a further cheque would be sent out to make up the difference. I doubt this is going to happen now that they've removed all chances of actually speaking to someone. What an absolute CON.

The difficulty is I lost my job in August so I really need this money - it's already a month late and I'm struggling to get through to my next pay packet from a new job at end October.

I'll email them but don't hold out for any reply, let alone with the 10-15 working days time (that is a JOKE) - but I think I might make a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman, what do you think??

Hi Firemunchkin, Yes go ahead and call FO, I have and they are supposed to be sending me some forms so that I can make a complaint against Egg about them not sending me my cheque within the time allotted, and also for cutting off their phone lines so that you cant speak to anyone. They are real CROOKS for promising everyone their money, then not sending it. Something has to be done, why should they get away with this, and make people worry and suffer?

Firemunchkin has already reported receiving his cheque on 5th October!
By the time the Ombudsman gets around to dealing with any complaint, you'll have had your money for months.
The telephone line has been disconnected because EGG is being wound up, having been purchased by Barclaycard.

    Hi all,
I also received an offer letter from Egg PPI like so many others. I have not sent the acceptance letter back yet, little concerned about the wait i'll have now.
Also no one on this forum has mentioned Canada Square Operations, which i found on Citibank website, who were Egg Banking PLC, and are now dealing with all Egg Loan PPI complaints.
I know Barclaycard have taken over all Egg Credit Cards.
I'm also wondering whether to decline the offer and take it to FO, maybe that will move them along quickly and up their offer??

You've got some of your facts mixed up.
You take it to the FOS when you're not satisfied with the outcome of your complaint.

Since your complaint has already been upheld, the FOS won't speed it up, in fact, it'll slow it down to over a year to tell you the same thing [maybe] in years time.

Barclaycard took over all active accounts, not closed ones.

Do you want to wait a month or so for your money or over a year?

If you decline the offer, you'll join the queue at FOS and wait a year or more for their adjudication. The Bank pays for every FOS referral whether they win or lose, so taking it to the Ombudsman will not encourage the Bank to increase their offer in any way.

I also have a claim in for my Egg Credit Card.

They have upheld my claim and sent numerous letters to confirm, however none of them have arrived.

All my bills arrive like clockwork every month lol, why can't the one bit of good news arrive?

My initial complaint was sent in early May 2012.

I got a quick response (within a week) that they were looking into my claim.

And then by mid-June they sent a letter saying they needed more time.

I gave them more time and eventually in early October I phoned them to see what was going on and they said they had upheld my claim and sent me a letter in mid August with the award that I was to sign and send back.

I explained that I had not received it so they said they would send out another. Waited 10 days and still no sign of letter so phoned again, and again they said they would send another. I joked that it was getting a bit silly and would this be 3rd time lucky? I waited another 10 days and still no letter so phoned them again and asked if they could please send it recorded or special delivery because this was getting a bit ridiculous, he said he couldn't authorise that, said he would print out the letter himself, double checked my address again and said it would be in the post.

And yep, you guessed it, it's now another 10 days and still no letter so today, again, I am going to have to phone them again to chase up the letter. 4 letters they claim they have sent and none received!

Would you be so kind to message me the number you called, I was due to have had a reply by Wednesday but nothing yet. I am hopeful it will come over the weekend but just in case.....

    I used 01452 828010 and then option 1 - free from a mobile ;-)

Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm (recently extended from 5pm due to the high level of calls)

I would suggest calling them as close aftrer 8am as you can as that will reduce the amount of time you have to wait in the queue before it builds up.
