BB I am still reading the thread but you made me warm and fuzzy:A I have been diagnosed with gall stones (been going on for a bit more than two years but being pregnant twice in that time didnt help pin down the cause of my discomfort).Im averaging one trip a week to A&E for entenox (and morphine once or twice) to cope with the agonising pain that an attack brings, whilst I wai for surgery.

Since the diagnosis Ive been adjusting my diet accordingly, but for a number of weeks I was only eating yoghurt and then I got afraid to eat anything. My last A&E trip, a doctor gave me an interesting alternative and suggested that not eating would only make it worse because of the under use of bile.He suggested that I snack on fruit and veg and have at least 6 smaller meals a day rather than three larger ones to ensure my stomach always has "something to work on". Ive been doing this for a week now and so far Ive had only one mild attack. I made myself a weekly meal planner yesterday with columns for calories to try and get my intake up and now Im going to make a recipe book to go with that. Im putting your plans into that book as over the weekend some of those choices (I especially liked the mixed veg crustless quiche) have really "filled me up" without adding to the pain.

I just wanted to say thank you for that:)

I really feel for you, i had gallstones which caused me to have pancretitsis now i'm not sure if everyone gets as much pain as me or if mine was worse, but i had just had twins and by the time they were 4 months i'd managed 10days at home, by that point my dr just said i'm not letting you home, if your taking up a bed they'll sort you an awful lot quicker, i got abit upset and said i had new born babies at home to which he said if i don't keep you you could have newborn orphans, bit blunt and it annoyed me at the time but he did have a point within 2 weeks i'd had 2 mri's (i was still waiting for an appointment from my first episiode it came threw after that) and my operation, that was 6 years ago and i still have to be careful, i'm lucky i can eat anything now except very spicy things, i can even manage the odd chinese if i'm careful about what i eat before and after it :)

I hope you get some releif soon, i still suffered from pains after however i didn't want to live on codine so my dr put my on epilepsy tablets and they worked wonders.

    _pale_
    :eek:_pale_

Well, this brought back memories of the worst pain in my entire life. When my twins were 4 months old I suddenly began with these intense pains that felt like I had been shot in the chest and the bullet had come out of my back. I have never known pain like it and I have had a baby naturally and twins by C Sect. This went on for about six weeks but I guess I only had about 8 attacks.

After being mis-diagnosed several times by incompetent GPs (I say that because I was presenting very obvious GB pain signs) my Dad diagnosed Gall Stones and I was whipped in (was private at the time thank God) within the week and the nasty thing was removed.

I had a couple of severe attacks afterwards - apparently very occasionally they leave a stone or two behind somewhere in a tube or something _pale_ but not any more. I just get bad stomach acid now, something I never had before :(

quintwins - what an awful thing for the dr to say! At least he made sure you got sorted swiftly (ish) though x

Polkadot - I hope they get you sorted soon and that you are able to manage it through diet until the op. You have my every sympathy. Dreadful, hellish thing to go through (((hugs)))

I just thought of a dish I make sometimes that the kids absolutely love and it works out very cheap per portion.

    Baked Bean Bake

In a dish, layer up thinly sliced potatoes, finely chopped onion, baked beans, grated cheese and S&P. Finish with a layer of potatoes and grated cheese then bake in the oven around 180c until potatoes are cooked through - 45 mins ish?

Nice with a green veg or salad :)

One I made last night was pasta bake.
Basically it was just pasta and cheap frozen mixed veg (bag contained peas, carrots, broccoli and cauli) with half a can of cream of chicken soup (he!nz was on offer :D ) as a sauce with some grated cheese stirred through and a little on top.

It was delish and very cheap. I am tempted to make it again tonight with the other half can of soup :D

I can relate to this. Had the gall bladder removed 6 years ago as well. Several trips to a&e (funny but the pains always came at night time!!!), I can definitely say it was a lot worse than having a baby. The pain was simply unbearable, to the point of me nearly passing out. I'll never forget how I phoned nhs to request the ambulance and was refused one as my oh was home and could have theoretically driven me to hospital (this was at around midnight and we had a sleeping two year old at home). I had to drive myself, can't even remember how I made it there. Several MRI scans and an operation later I feel great now, but have to watch very fatty and spicy things.

Yup, me too. Had my gallbladder out 3 yrs ago and I too had made several journeys to A and E.[They gave me paracetomol!!!] I mean seriously!!!!
Didn't think there was anything worse than childbirth. I was wrong!
I was so poorly after a year of being patted on the head, given paracetomol and generally patronised that I decided I had no choice but to take matters into my own hands. I had a j pot with cheese and two cream eggs. Two hours later when the ambulance came, I was on my knees, literally seeing stars.
Hugs to anyone suffering out there. Don't put up with it! Get down that Gp's surgery and stamp your feet!

I do a baked bean, bacon and cheese slice

HM SC pastry made with flour, butter ,lard and water rolled into a rectangle on a baking tray 50p
A layer of baked beans 26p that have been drained, followed by a layer of chopped cooking bacon I use half a pack so 37p that has been lightly fried, an onion that has been sliced and fried 10p, with thick slices of cheese on top ( I use Edam cheese slices 10 pack is £1.15 from Aldi) I only use four or five slices 57p. Fold over the pastry, dampen the edges then crimp and seal well. Egg wash 10p and put in the oven until golden which is about 25/30 mins at 180c gas mark 4.
Total cost £1.90 serves six 32p a portion or four is 47.5p per portion

Lovely with mash potato, wedges or chips

Catching up on more recent posts about whether it could still be done on £7 got me thinking. I realise not everyone has the same ideas of what is acceptable to them personally, but I wanted to see what I could do if I really did have a limit of the original £7 as prices rise.

    Breakfast
Porridge (made with water as for most of the other menus on here) with dried fruit
    Lunches
Peanut butter or peasepudding sandwiches in wholemeal bread (pease pudding made by cooking the peas until thick and mix in some spread; leave to cool and thicken.) Dried fruit after if looking for something sweet.
    Dinners
Pasta cooked with the mixed veg and a knob of spread stirred through once drained x 2
Broth made with the split peas and veg x 2
Veggie burgers and cabbage x 2 (cooked split peas until thick and cooled so set, then mix with some frozen mixed veg and some oats to make firmer. Shape into burgers and fry in a little spread or bake until crisp.)
Nutloaf with veg and cabbage (As for veggie burgers, omitting the frozen veg but adding a couple spoonfuls of peanu butter; shape into a loaf or put in greased loaf in and bake at 180C for about an hour. Cool a little then slice.)
    Snacks
Oatcakes made by stirring a wee knob of spread into boiling water then mixing into oats to make a firm dough. Roll out thinly. Bake until crisp.
    Dried fruit
Tea to drink, with soya milk

Shopping list from Asda - Total: £6.88
    Soya milk 1 litre 59p
(you can buy sweetened if you miss sugar in your tea)
    Smartprice tea bags 27p
Great Scot Yellow Split Peas 500g 58p
    Smartprice dried fruit 500g 98p
(you can choose sultanas or mixed dried fruit for a wider range of nutrients from the mix of "rainbow colours")
    Smartprice peanut butter 62p
Smartprice mixed frozen veg 1 kilo 75p
Smartprice reduced fat spread 500g 60p
    Smartprice spaghetti 500g 24p
    Smartprice wholemeal bread 47p
    1 green cabbage 50p
    Asda Ready Oats 500g 1.28
(the ready oats are more expensive than smartrice oats but these ones are well fortified to help boost your nutrient intake)
Love and compassion to all x
