Sad that people saying you should've gone to another breeder instead. You should've gone to breed specific rescue tbh. But you've committed yourself to this pup now so you can't turn your back on it.0

That's ridiculous! She hasn't even seen the puppy so how has she committed herself to it?0 -

No they should have gone to wherever they were comfortable in getting an appropriate dog for their family which is what they have done.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

I think the OP is winding people up ?Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.0

She seen photos, said she'll take it, etc etc etc.0

I will never understand how a vegan can be pro-breeding. Any sensible person would encourage rescue. They have plenty of suitable dogs and puppies.0 -

I thought veganism was all about avoiding anything using animal products - but is it not up to that individual to decide where to draw the line? I'd have thought that the idea of pets as a whole would be shaky grounds, I know many Peta extremists would rather put dogs to sleep than see them kept as pets at all.
I'm not a vegan, but I'm pro-rescues, and I support responsible breeders. Yes, there may be many dogs in rescues now but a complete halt on responsible breeding would do so much more damage to the dog population. Do you think BYBs and puppyfarms would stop what they were doing? No, they'd be rubbing their hands with glee, their competition has just completely dropped out of the market! In 15 years time, when all the reputable breeder's dogs have died out, the future of the dog as a species will be in the hands of BYBs, puppyfarms and accidental litters from dogs originating from those two places. The health, temperament and standard of all breeds will go down the pan (I don't mean to say the standard is important for vanity reasons, but it does have an impact on the health of a dog - e.g. exaggerated slant on the legs can really affect the hips of certain breeds, too many folds in the skin of breeds like the Sharpei can lead to eye issues, skin infection, etc.).
Ideally we could put a pause button on breeding, wait until every rescue dog has a home, but biology doesn't work like that. The dogs and lines that responsible breeders have worked years to achieve have a 'use by' date, they need to be bred at a certain age, so they can't just stop what they're doing.
You'll find most responsible breeders have strict clauses wanting any offspring of their dog to be returned to them at any point anyway, generally a decent breeder's puppies don't end up in rescue so don't add to the problem anyway.
It's the BYBs and puppyfarms that need working against, they are the ones who produce puppies en mass, with no backup, no support, no care for who adopts them or if they can provide a home for life - they're in it for the cash and they're the ones causing the rescue problems.
OP, I think you've been given some great advice but I too would be very wary of this breeder from what you've said. The website you found them on isn't the best source and many BYBs and puppyfarms put up a good front.
The fact that this breeder hasn't appeared to have made you pay a deposit and has puppies available to purchase just whenever you make your mind up is a warning sign to me - a good breeder will have had a waiting list weeks/months/sometimes even years before a litter is even conceived.
I would recommend you look into the breed you want and attend some dog shows in the area and get chatting. Word of mouth is a great way to find the good and the bad breeders.

So? If she gets there today and finds the puppy covered in fleas, half-dead and drooping, then by your logic she should buy the dog. That's almost as idiotic as thinking everyone should get a rescue dog and no-one should use a responsible breeder.0 -

Hmm are you going to pick it up today but haven't seen it yet ?
We are on the puppy hunt just now and I have been on here a lot asking advice and still haven't picked breeder yet. We are only going through proper breeders who have a good reputation (word of mouth works best) I am even going to some dog shows ( not interested in that side) as it helps you get talking to people who can reccomend breeders. As much as KC papers don't really mean anything (puppy farmed dogs can be KC reg) I think it helps you know a bit more about your dog. I don't know what health checks are required for westies but for GSDs I will not buy a pup whos parents havent been hip and elbow scored.
Good luck with the pup and I pray its not puppy farmed.0
