If you see small black things moving around they're weevils. Look down the sides of the packet especially - you may have been lucky and not had an infected batch0

Just throw the bag of flour away and don't look in it!
I got into the habit of looking closely at all flour before using, just in case.
I keep my flour in jars after reading about that. Ikea do cheap glass ones £2 each. Saves any worry.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Nope, not wombles, or weebles even! Weebles wobble but they don't fall down..... (does that show my age??) Apparently they won't harm you, they just put you off eating whatever you've baked. I found an old thread about weevils http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=267932
I haven't had weevils since I got my new kitchen thankfully!0 -

Got to start thinking about tonight's dinner now! Was just going to do cheese and tomato pasta bake but I've got the cooking bug (not weevils) now and want to make something different! Any suggestions??Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

If you keep your flour in the freezer you will not get weevils. Another tip, is that if you use whole wheat flour you should keep that in the freezer too; otherwise due to the higher oil content it may go rancid.
I am from the US so I make US style pancakes: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Good-Old-Fashioned-Pancakes/Detail.aspx
The only difference from UK pancakes is that you add a little sugar and baking powder. I like to add vanilla essence too! It is a cheap and easy dinner/ tea with golden or maple syrup with ham or bacon. The trick is to use medium heat. First I pour a little oil on the pan and spread it around with a paper towel (kitchen roll). Just so there is a light film. Preheat the pan. When you splash a drop of water on the pan and it sizzles the pan is ready for the batter. Take care it is not too hot. I've made them since I was a kid and I've never had a problem getting circles! They are ready to be flipped when there are bubbles evenly dispersed throughout each pancake. It works best on a non stick griddle pan or an iron skillet (saucepan? not sure what you call this) Sometimes the first couple of pancakes are throwaways; they don't turn golden brown; not sure why.
Makes a good cheap pud too with canned peaches and cream!0 -
