Yes, they meet different people and the friendships change when they go into year 10. My son's just finished year 11 and he made new friends in his option groups and stopped hanging around with a group who were more trendy. He and his friends started to grow their hair and listen to rock music.
The kids who took arty subjects for GCSE, or music, started to spend more time with the others in those classes. A girl who had never really had any friends found some in her art class.
