I cant make out who its made my. say HL something in device manager.

Tried some more discs and it seems to be actually shaving the plastic of the top of the disc in the centre. Clearly not right. I'll have to send it back.

Still yet to get to grips with vista yet!

HL is normally Hitachi.

are you sure you are pressing the CD/DVD in the spindle properly?

shaving plastic off the top is not right, probably need to contact dell mate

After having had my laptop for a couple of days and playing around a bit ive discovered this score system and wondered if we all had the same score considering we ordered the same systems (i know some altered theres a bit tho). Thought it would be interesting just to see if other who have the Inspiron 1501 which without the battery upgrade (which i took ) was £328 (or somewhere there).

My index score is 2.8.

I hadnt heard of this score system before so i think it must be to do with Vista. Currently it says the score can range from 1-5.9 and whichever component has the lowest subscore then that will be the figure for base score so its not an average.

These are my individual scores:-
Processor 4.6
Memory 3.9
Graphics 2.8
Gaming Graphics 3.1
Primary Hard Disk 4.8

Well if graphics is the base score, then everyone else should get the same 2.8 as every one of these laptops has the same ATi graphics chip!

Yes i agree. I just wondered if anyones did vary from what mine was showing.

4.2 compared to 2.8 for the same chipset? That's one hell of a variation? :eek:
