i have been given the task of finding a good spec dell desktop for a family member who has a max of £310

the requirements are

win xp but possibly vista
needs 1 gig ram
monitor not bothered about size
dvd rw
good processer
needs to connect to internet pos by lan

have seen one on dell website that seems ok (D04C15a Dimension C521)
but i can work out how it can connect to internet without modem or does it have a lan?

need to sort soething out asap pref tonight if anyone can help

Just a quick question regarding this deal, does anyone know when it ends? I have looked through the thread but can't see anything however it maybe because i went cross eyed about halfway through

Dell's special offers are released every Thursday, and a new set appears the next Thursday, sometimes better and sometimes worse...

However, the site says go to the couriers link to check delivery date, but I can't find a link for the carrier. Am I being thick? Can anyone point me int he right direction. I don't want to be out when it comes!

Dell should send an email confirmation of order, and also a PDF document. In one of those it should give you the link to the courier's website. Don't worry if you haven't received a PDF, it's another aspect of Dell's "service" that is a bit hit and miss, so you may not have received one

Indeed not, my 6400 last week £417.68 and this week exactly the same spec, £636.99 though there are still probably some other good deals out there !

EDIT at 2115 : Just had a call from Dell customer care asking If everything was OK with my laptop which was delivered today, but as I'm not at home right now and won't be til tuesday I said I couldn't tell them. They said they'd call back tuesday. I'm impressed !!

In my purchase email from dell, near the bottom of the description list it say's.

zzzDO NOT ORDER BSD INSPIRON/DIMENSION FLYER.

Anyone know what this means.

Dell run "good" offers every couple of weeks, you just need to decide when you are going to jump at it and don't look back

Got ours yesterday 1501 2gb one. Took some time to see the wireless but ok now.
Is anyone else's dvd drive really noisy! It's ok for dvd movies but when i put in a disk with movie files on it spins up like it's going to take off! The noise drowns out the sound on the movie.
Is this normal? Never had a laptop before.

Is it a Sony drive?

My Inspiron 1300's DVD drive is pretty noisy and it's a Sony drive in that.
