Mine has arrived. Internet is rapid on it compared to my old laptop and current PC. Vista is alright as well, not too fussed about it not having Aero tbh.

And the laptop is far sturdier than the 1300 Inspiron I had :)

Turn off/uninstall mcafee and use the built-in Vista security, should speed things up!

for those who have got the dell laptops and want to get rid of the pre installed clutterware

you can use this software to do it: http://www.yorkspace.com/pc-de-crapifier/

saves the hassle of doing a fresh reinstall of windows :)

Wow you did well I wanted then to upgrade mine to vista Premium for £25 but they failed to do it before it went into production. Dell now want me to pay £154.56 to send me the upgrade disc so I can do it myself !

So I would jump at it for £15

I went for the 90 day call & collect service and I hope you have been told incorrectly. After 90 days I thought if there was a problem I would have to pay to send it back but they would fix it for free. Hence a 1 year warranty.

    Hi
Mine arrived yesterday an d it is great. However I too was under the illusion that the 90 day warranty was all you got without the upgrade to 1 or 2 year. So I upgraded to 2 year collect warranty for an extra £47.00 and £29 to upgrade to Vista Premium. However I am using it for my new accountancy business so I think it is worth the extra. Re the previous post regarding removing unwanted software what software would most people not need? Anyway very pleased just need to learn the difference with Vista!!!
    Many thanks
PS Screen sizeis very good too!!!
PPS I use AVG Virus softwarte on my desktop. Should I remove McAfee and install AVG now or wait and use the months trial? Sorry to be thick nut my son who usually helps me with this is away on holiday!!!

i thought that the 90 days only means they wil collect for 90 days if the laptop goes down and if it happens after this then you pay for the postage back.

using the util above will get rid of the clutterware dell normally install on the computer, like AOL stuff, unwanted photo applications etc etc, if your happy with them, then just keep them on :)

Vista is very good, i like it alot, prefer it now to xp ::)

as for AVG Virus, if your happy to use McAfee for a month, then that fine, if not then get rid!

personally i would get rid and install NOD32 (payed for) which is an excellent anti virus.

    hope this helps :)
  • How loud are the fans on these laptops? And how often are they used?

I'm looking to upgrade my old Dell but the loud fan is annoying.
