I dont know whether this is in the right place, but i've read all of the MSE advice on the first pages and lots of the posts. My account goes over the arranged overdraft usually every month and as we have two accounts (with HSBC) one current and one bills, we tend to get charged on both. In addition to the account fee(bank a/c plus = £12.95 per month) and interest they charge they apply a "Dr charge/ notified fees/charges" on my account of anything between £20 and £125 per month. Can i claim for this???? or should it just be proportionate to the amount i go overdrawn. What is proportionate???
Sorry if this is repeated advice and a silly question, but i have looked and looked to try and decifer whether i could claim or not.
    Thanks in advance

  • I'm sure there's a massive topic on this somewhere, but I can't see it, so I was wondering what fees can I reclaim???

    Paid Referrals???

    Unpaid D/D's????

Really not sure here, sorry for what i'm sure is a really basic question!!

    Thanks, in advance,

    Mike

  • Hi All

I was hoping for some advice about whether it is legal/fair for my bank (HSBC) to charge me £25 for temporarily increasing my overdraft by £100 for 2 weeks. It seems a huge amount of money (a quarter of what I am requesting) for such a short amount of time. Incidentally my bank also charges me £25 for going over my overdraft limit, so basically if one month I run into problems I either take the £25 hit for going over my limit or I take the £25 hit for doing what they advise and calling to arrange a temporary increase.

This policy seems to totally disadvantage people who maybe one month got things slightly wrong and have the decency to call and notify their bank in the hope of some support. Basically with this policy you are damned if you do and damned if you don't, there is no incentive to call the bank and either way the bank makes £25 out of you.

Anyway advice on whether this is lawful and what I can do about it would be great!

    Thanks

    Lisa
  • Hi all.
Just a quick question really as I can't seem to find the answer in the forums.

Does 'reclaiming bank charges' include late payment charges?
I've had quite a lot over the past 6 years and wondered if I can follow the reclaiming advice or should I forget about it?

    Thanks v. much,
    Sam.

  • Hi. I am about to send re-claim letter to First Direct.
    I have two questions.
    1) Can I only claim Excess Over Draft Fees or Can I claim Overderaft Fees as well ?
    2) Do First Direct close accounts or cancel overdraft facilities when claimed against ?

    Thanks
  • Hi

Just started the process of claiming back from First Direct. I wrote to them asking for copies of statements and enclosed a £10 cheque. Brownie points for First Direct - They sent the cheque back saying they provided statements free.

I have now recieved my statements from them and am confused at how they split out their charges.

I have an agreed overdraft limit of £600. When I have used this facility they have charged an overdraft fee - usually of £30 but strangely sometimes only £25 or £20. When I have gone OVER the £600 limit they have also charged me an EXCESS overdraft fee of variable amounts, anthing between £15 and £149 per month on top of the £30. Can I reclaim the total amount of overdraft fees and EXCESS overdraft fees which come to £3150 or just the EXCESS amounts which come to £2230.

One other point - I've never really paid much attention to my statements before but was surprised to see that on at least 2 occasions they have charged me excess fees when I've been in credit for the entire month! One month they charged me £75 for being £6000 in credit!!! Nobody should feel in the slightest bit guilty about claiming every penny off these rob dogs!
  • If you mean credit card late payment charges, the full amount can be reclaimed.I did it sucessfully with my Tesco card.
  • Hello. Thanks very much for that.

Yes, that's what I mean. Its mainly my Nationwide credit card that ill reclaim for.
Did Tesco allow you to still carry their card after you won the claim?
