What a great idea for a thread. Like ftbworried. thinking about this has made me realise how OS I have become in the last two or three years (it started with us making our own passata and ketchup to deal with the glut of tomatoes, making our own bread, and then really getting in to home made stuff....discovering this board a year or so ago made me OS in many other ways too).
Um, so, Food: I still buy Thai Green Curry sauces, Tracklements brown sauce (haven't found a recipe, and theirs is soooooo good), expensive dried pasta
Personal: Biotherm products for my face
Cleaning: Karndean floor cleaner for my floors (sorry, stardrops just doesn't do the job as well on vinyl, although it works well on the other solid floors). Oh yes. and Fairy liquitab thingummies in the dishwasher (thanks Kim for reminding me)
Hmm. There must be more than that. I'll come back later if I think of anything else.0 -

Have you tried a small one-cup size thermos flask? That's what we use when we're out & about.
Have realised I should prehaps have included haircutting in this, but it isn't a luxury to me as I HATE having it done & it only costs £8 every 3 motnhs or so (longer if I can put it off for the slightest reason!) and I colour it myself at home. I even tint my own eye-lashes now too!Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -

also creme eggs !
oh and ready made lasagne for when im feeling lazy
Claire
That's my treat too but I don't have it blow dried (saves £12) It drys quite quickley anyway and I think that people will think that I've just been swimming!!0 -
Most of my make-up is designer. But it lasts so much longer and so really is worth the extra, and all my face care producsts come from lush which isn't the cheapest (but isn't that expensive either).
OH and about once a fortnight we get KFC
About containers.....ftbworried wrote: »*I still buy one can of soup a week to take to work for lunch- I tried taking homemade but I can't seem to find a container that ensures it doesn't leak all over my bag. You can use any container at all if you seal really tightly around the edge with parafilm. You can get it on e-bay. Just don't microwave the container with it still on!0 -
i buy shop-bread (hopefully reduced) even though i own a breadmaker
i buy jars of curry and sweet and sour sauce (under 30p each so lot cheaper and easier than trying to make them.)
i occasionally buy ready made sandwiches for my lunch if ive eaten my HM lunch and am still hungry.. or just dont fancy what ive made by lunch time
i also buy ready made puff pastry(but do make my own shortcrust!)
i buy supermarket meat (and only when reduced)0 -
I manage to get my hair cut at a hairdresser and save money. I go to be a model - you basically get one of the trainees who do it will supervision. Their are taught how to do it with you there. You sit in the chairs and trainee talks about what you want done the supervisior/senior hairdresser comes over and talks to the trainee about what they need to do checks with you, then checks the trainee knows what cuts to do etc. The trainee starts with the supervisor/senior hairdresser watching. After getting started the trainee is left to get on with it, but will regular checks throughout the cut. At the end of the cut the supervisor checks its straight etc.
I find getting my hair cut and coloured if I want to treat myself cost me £20 last time.0 -
I use a tumble dryer. (have to though, we live in a unit in a resort where body corporate don't allow drying of clothes outside, and they take a week indoors)
I get my hair cut. (I cut OH's but he won't cut mine!)
I buy ice cream. (really must try making my own... just something I haven't tried)
I'm surprised how many people buy pastry, it's only a few weeks since I tried a new recipe that now means I have foolproof pastry - 1 cup s/r flour, 2 tbsp butter, add milk till it's dough. Works every time and have done quiches, pies, even cornish pasties.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Eating out at least once a week (though have cut way way back on eating lunches out!)
Marks and Spencer hummus, salads and breads.
Very occasional readymade stuff, eg veggie bakes from M&S if on offer.0 -

The lock & lock tubs are guaranteed leak proof. Lakeland sell them and Asda as well I think. The lid "clicks" down on all 4 sides, I take soup to work in mine and it really works..0 -

I used to have this problem - now I bulk cook soup and freeze it and take a frozen portion - leave it to defrost at work and if not defrosted fully cook it for a bit longer or defrost then cook it in the micro at work. Cos it's frozen when in my bag it doesn't spill0
