Ryanair to charge for all luggage

Horrible company.
Spotted yesterday at Dublin airport.....bag gestapo on duty at the gate telling man with bag and suit carrier to put one bag into the hold for €50. Man stands there, puts suit on over clothes and stuffs suit carrier into bag. Passes bag gestapo check. Walks down stairs and takes suit off and puts back into carrier.
Pointless.
Bag gestapo previously asked me to put my cup of orange juice and bagel into my carry on bag. Drank the juice and "wore" the bagel.
Pointless.
Pointless? Not remotely... If they let one person take on a suit carrier because it's "just a suit" then they have to let the following 100 passengers take a handbag, or a laptop etc. etc. because it's "only 1 more little thing"...
The website, the check-in procedure, your boarding pass and the signs dotted around the airport ALL say you can have ONE bag - with NO exceptions (despite some airports actually allowing duty free exceptions). If you STILL ignore it then you deserve everything you get from the "bag gestapo". Why should everyone else make an effort to follow the rules while you are free to break them as you're above such things?0 -
Its pointless if the passengers when challenged move their stuff into the one bag, and then move it back when past the bag gestapo.
Its pointless when I wear my bagel until Im past the bag gestapo.
Should a bagel of diamater 12cm count in a paper bag about 15cm square count as a seconde piece of hand luggage.....especially when its not enforceable ie I can just pocket it until Im past them?illegitimi non carborundum0 -
It's not pointless, it's consistently enforcing the rules. They've decided on a certain limit for carry-on items and enforce it. It's not rocket science. If they didn't, no doubt you'd be the first one in here complaining about passengers being treated differently.0

Dublin Airport on Friday. Young lady with briefcase and a book. 50 Shades of Grey or something.
Is this what they are trained to do? Girl put book in briefcase, walked past door, and took book out again. What was achieved?"Im sorry but you cant have two items of hand luggage"
But they dont. They often let people on with huuuuuge cases. They've decided on a certain limit for carry-on items and enforce itillegitimi non carborundum0 -

Nothing was achieved of course, but nothing is lost either. The woman was delayed by 5 seconds and then moved on. Though that isn't normal practise - I always carry a book (and an enormous jacket which invariably has a towel, shoes, electronics, clothes etc. all crammed in it!) as well as my 1 bag.
That I have never witnessed. Every single time I have been in the airport, people have had any bag that looks remotely close to the limit checked at least once.0 -
To those of you who may travel to or from Ireland, Aer Lingus ar getting a bit tougher on carry on baggage as well.

I have to say that AL is a much more pleasant flying experience than RYR.
And I agree with AL on this one, the amount of people taking the kitchen sink on board was laughable.
But they still allow a handbag or "satchel" in addition to the 10k bag, so stick yer laptop in there! The strict one bag rule on RYR is a total pain.0 -

Michael O'Leary is planning a press conference tomorrow. Will he have anything to say about baggage charges?0 -

Might be the new Tel Aviv routes. They also seem to be expanding in Norway where, presumably, the relative wealth of the country means there are "opportunities".SaveTheEuro wrote: »Michael O'Leary is planning a press conference tomorrow. Will he have anything to say about baggage charges?0
