It would have been nice if the OP had been a little more generous with information about this supposed change.

The OP is either first with the news, before everybody else....or wrong.

Given that American airlines, and now Wizz, are charging for hand luggage it wouldn't come as a complete surprise. And Ryanair have promised the Office of Fair Trading to stop charging a debit fee surcharge from December so a new optional form of revenue would have its appeal. It's over to the OP to tell us more...

  • This is probably a misunderstanding about what you can bring onboard...... Michael O'Leary was on a recent chat show in Dublin and said how he didn't want to carry any luggage in the hold of his aircraft.......He was basically proving a "Bus" service....

airstaff737 hasn't come back to tell us more but here is one snippet that may back his/her story:

The Daily Telegraph, reporting on hand luggage charges at Wizz, said "low-cost rival easyJet said it has no plans to introduce such a charge, while a Ryanair spokesman refused to comment on whether it was considering a similar move."

I think this will happen myself.
The amount & size of cabin baggage is just getting silly now.
In fact it is actually delaying the departure of quite a number of flights that I have been on in the last year or so.
How they will work it gawd knows......will they seal up all the overhead lockers ???

    Why would they do that?

If they do bring in a charge they may as well let everybody use the overhead lockers.

It would be a shame if they insisted that passengers with minibags (handbags, laptops) had to place them at their feet, causing friction between crew and passengers.

I don't get this 'bus service' thing. Every long distance bus I have ever taken has allowed unlimited luggage in the boot/hold and as much as you want to carry on board - with no extra charge for either. There is no need to check in (therefore no charge). With local buses you just stick your hand out at the bus stop, pay when you board and get off at the destination stop. You can take as much luggage as you wish. In what way is Ryanair like a bus?

    Well actually
    http://uk.megabus.com/luggage-allowance.aspx
    https://help.nationalexpress.com/help/general/luggage_limit
    https://help.nationalexpress.com/help/general/excess_luggage2

  • So what you are saying is that National Express and Megabus both include luggage in the ticket price. National Exress includes two items with a total limit of 40kg (no more than 20kg per bag) and Megabus one 20kg item. You can also take a small item of hand-luggage. This is similar to a full-service airline. So, how is Ryanair like a bus service?
