Hi. I am attempting to reclaim £8,900 back in charges from Halifax. It is a huge amount and wonder what experiences other people have had trying to reclaim over £5,000.0

Just received the Abbeys defence against our claim and have started to get cold feet..... feel a little better known we might have till mid sept like urself to get our act together b4 the hearin thou!! My main concern is the amount we are claimin for, its nearly £12,000 including interest!! Feel terribly ashamed of havin lost such a large amount in charges thru our own stupidness but this makes us more determined to get it back! Has anyone claimed such a high amount b4 and been successful?? anyone have a clue at what sort of court fee's we may have to pay out if we lose in court?? or should we just quit while we're ahead??0

I AM IN THE EARLY STAGES OF CLAIMING MY BANK CHARGES OFF NATWEST. I HAVE RECIEVED MY STATEMENTS WORKED OUT MY CHARGES WHICH TOTAL A WHOPPING £17000.00 BETWEEN 2 ACCOUNTS. I HAVE RECENTLY RECIEVED A LETTER OFF THEM SAYING THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT AND IT WILL TAKE THEM APPROX 6-7 WEEKS. NOW DO I WAIT THE FULL 7 WEEKS FOR A REPLY OR DO I GO STRAIGHT TO THE COURT PROCESS?? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.... BEEN READING ALL THE MESSAGES AND HAVENT FOUND ANONE WHO HAS CLAIMED MORE THAN 8K0

Hi the choice is yours, all the banks have their own time scales and when they make an offer it may be 50% 65% etc, I would stick to your own timescales as stated in your letters and what is recommended on here
If you have threatened court then that'd be the route now to take.
Good luck with your claim

Hi eveyone. can anyone advise me on i can still go down "Martins path" to reclaim, even though my charges total nearly £8000 without interest? !!
I have received my statements back, sent the next letter saying i was going to claim my charges back and then got the old standard reply "we are within our rights to charge you etc etc". Sent the next letter saying i was not going to give up and lets go all the way if neccessary. This is a serious amount of cash and i am not giving up ! Advice?0 -

Of course you can, it's up to you whether you go via the Financial Ombudsman or County Court. The maximum amount in the small claims court is £5000 but you can split the claims in two and claim say from 2001 - 2003 on one and 2004-2007 on the other, hope this helps
