My claim is for over £6K plus interest. The small claims court is for claims under £5K. Whats the procedure for a bigger claim? Anyone know? The person that claimed and won over £17K. What did they do?

I reduced the period I was claiming for to bring the claim to just under £5k and went ahead.0

Hiya,
Ok I'm a bit confused!
When you add the cost of court fees to what you are claiming from the bank; if it comes to just over £5000 in total, does that mean you can't claim in the small Claims Court?
In other words, is the court fee something extra, but you must keep the actually claim from the bank below £5000?
Any info would be brilliant, cos I'm not too certain about this.
Thank you

I am just about to start totalling my charges with my bankfor the last 6 years
I get this feeling they will come to more than £5000 (hence my ID)
Is it possible to submit 2 claims - one for say 2001 - 2004 and another 2004 -2007 or would the court think this was wrong?
To be honest £5,000 would be great but helpful to know
Thanks in anticipation

I am claiming £5200 from NatWest and have sent out the second letter threatening court action in 14 days. I am now preparing myself for court and have begun to fill in the Moneyclaim form online. I have taken Martins advice and reduced my claim to under £5000, so as to go through the small claims court. Now when I add the 8%APR interest it takes my claim up another £1500 (to £6500). On the moneyclaim form when i put £6500 in the 'Amount Claimed' box it takes the court charges up from £120 to £250. Does this again mean that I am out of the small claims maximum? And are things really a lot more complicated once you are above the small claims limit? Any advice?0

The Small Claims limit is generally £5000 before interest, so you are still under that level.0 -
hi.i'm in the process of claiming bank charges from the halifax and have just received their letter stating that they have 8 weeks to look into my complaint.would it be wise to stick to my original time scale of 14 days?also i have a bigger problem which is that my claim is above the small claims limit of £5,000 so does anybody know wot the next step would be?thanks in advance if anybody can help.0

If its a little over 5 grand (before interest) you might be able to still use small claims, if not Im not sure. You certainly need to use your own timescale though...forget the 8 weeks letter...Stick to YOUR timescale. Dont take ANY bull. DONT be intimidated. The law is on OUR side.
Feel free to thank me if I was a help
