Because you are signing a lease agreement to lease a laptop not buy one!

It appears customers are either being conned or untrained staff don't know what they are selling.

...or customers don't listen properly to what they are being told when they see a new shiny toy.

Staff know exactly what they are selling, if you are in anyway unsure or even if you are 100% sure ALWAYS READ YOUR PAPERWORK!

Why is it we can't have an expectation anymore that companies will act with a basic degree of honesty?

Why is there this attitude that it is ok for them to twist or misrepresent the truth as long as they put a contract in front of you?

How many times recently have i walked into a store to find an elderly pensioner being told that the best like for like model for her basic 5 year old phone is a mid range phone priced £35 to £60?!

I walked into pc world today, the people walking around were like baby seals happily being clubbed for their skin. One lady wanted a first laptop for her young child to do some basic internet and word processing and was being told that around £800 to £900 pound laptops will fit your needs!

!!!!!!? What child is going to need a laptop capable of playing high-end games or running professional movie, music and image editing software?

Why is this ok for some people? Really it sickens me. By all means upsell a product and get some commission, that apple alternative may well be more attractive to a working professional who was looking for an android tablet. Maybe an elderly gent doesn't know about DAB radio when they came in, so show them the pricier digital radios.

But don't manipulate your customers ignorance to make yourself some money. How will Currys ever get loyalty or trust from its customers when they are treated like this?

Then you have complacent people with this attitude that your did it to yourself. Am I to treat every salesmen like they are a dodgy second hand car dealer or double glazing agent now?

What a sad sad country we are descending into if that is the case.

I'd say that's a pretty good start - I used to be involved in the process of selling commercial printers worth hundreds of thousands, and most of the salesmen were used-car-arthur-daley clones.

It's human nature and it isn't pretty.

Currys are known for dreadful customer service.

I had a poor experience with them over 4 years ago and have refused to use them since, reading this I know I made the right decision. Interesting to see that there are still complaints over the honesty of the sales teams (or lack of).

Firstly Currys/Pc World do not work on commission so it makes no bearing to them to sell a high end laptop.

Secondly, No you don't need to treat sales people like conning second hand dealers, just have a degree of common sense about you. If you go into a sales environment where you believe they are on commission then you have to have a degree of expectation they will up-sell. A word you should learn is "No". If you think the sales people are pushing up the prices...say no. Simples.

Also if it where me I would give the customer the best price laptop, so then it makes it easier to sell the additions and keep it to somewhat of a budget.

Companies make money and people like to eat, if a company says to you "Upsell or walk out" you will up-sell. How many times have you been to mcdonalds and they've said "Is that a large meal" - Even they up-sell. Sales people are not going to turn around and say "Oh no sir please don't spend £900 in my store, you don't need to." - Stop blaming people's ignorance on "Shoddy Sales"

Better than them trying to mis-sell a top-range phone priced £350 to £600
  • well, im an idiot as well then! I went into PC World yesterday and advised them that i wanted to buy a laptop on their normal finance plan. She went off to check figures then came back with a very large knowhow guy who started saying that their infinity package was the best deal. I asked what came with that and at what cost. They advised that the payments would be barely any more than the 24 month finance they had quoted me (£21) and they include "at a minor extra cost" cloud and support and antivirus. I said again that I still thought normal finance would be better. They said that the payments are for two years and then I can trade in my laptop and start again. When I said I would not want a new laptop they said that is fine, I just keep the one I have. Admittedly i probably should have asked if this would cost me anything but naively thought they would offer this information!

We went through the application, she printed off the sheets and then gave me a pile with a sheet to sign on top. I had thought that I have covered most of what I wanted to know so signed, at which point I was told that there was no cooling off period once I had signed. They then said that they needed to take the first payment of £30.14 and then there would be the monthly payments of the same price. I was astonished at this but thought at least I was getting the extra support. Having got home I saw my receipt said "rented goods". I then looked online at the infinity information both on here and other sites to see that if i decided to keep the laptop after two years I have to pay the direct debits for another year, taking the cost to over £1,000! And no, they never once told me that i am renting the laptop and not buying it!

I have spoken to Currys head office, Rentsmart (who were actually very helpful) and the branch of PC World who have said to go in and as long as the finance application goes through they will change it to a 10 month normal finance.

To anyone reading this. This infinity is really not a good deal for normal consumers. DO not touch it with a bargepole and if they start pressuring and bringing over other members of staff who are apparently only "supervising" then just walk straight out of the shop.
  • I have also been ripped of with the currys infinity plan, I have just repackaged the laptop to send back to rentsmart. The laptop was £395 but cost me £910 over 2 years & now I have to return it. This is the worst deal ever & I would advise anyone to steer well clear.

Did you not read your information at the time of purchase before signing? Did you check your receipt when you walked out of the shop? It quite clearly states "Leased Goods:" - Even if you put to one side the fact that this is infinity would you not check your receipt anyway to make sure you were not over charged for anything?
