New 14 day rule to cancel credit agreements
Consumer Credit Directive comes into force

Thought this was set up as a lease so they sidestep "right to cancel credit agreement".

To my knowledge, Applecare+ has an excess payment for each use (max 2) of accidental damage cover, although I may be mistaken. Even so, the Infinity deal does seem a bit of a lemon for the average punter who'd be better off paying cash and looking after their goods, and paying an indie to get them fixed if they break them once every two years!

Applecare Plus doesn't exist in the UK, USA only I'm afraid.

The Infinity it a lot like a mobile phone contract, but without the data.

Most techie people upgrade their phones every few years and sell on their old ones.

Infinity is a whole lot like that, but it's all done in-house with 'selling' the phone on and getting a new one on a new contract.

    Hi,

PC World reps are known for this type of mis-selling. Read this thread.

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2271093

I have been mis-sold a similar scam a few years ago and I'm still trying to resolve it. Seems like this type of scheme is known for being a complete rip-off so the reps lie to you to sell it

I am happy to say whole saga with curry now over. And was pretty straight forward as well. I had call back from that convo it was agreed that a refund could be issued as was so early into contract.

Caller was going to contact store to explain how ever not through, i had to call back and i was told to go to store and explain to manager and have call them. After 5 mins a few different people saying could be done they called was told to do it.

I was refunded and switched over 10 month payment plan. 30 a month i happy that.

Annoyed with sales man as he just listen was still trying to put 1tb storage there which i told i don't want.

He some 1 moth free warranty on there which cost 5.50 a month which i have to cancel i told him 3 time i don't want that but he persisted to put it on.

    I'll cancel that off today.

Seems salesman not tvery bushy and don't listen to there customers.

I now wonder if i still have my 10% discount lol.....

I hope else going through the same similar thing gets it sorted thank you for advise given.

I do believe this deal is for business and not the every day buyer, they asked did i on a business account.

Glad to hear you got this issue sorted, I am awaiting a call back on Monday as I also went straight back the following day after discovering I'd been lied to. Hopefully it'll be resolved quickly!

For everyone else, please get in touch with Trading Standards (this now has to be done via Citizens Advice) and also Watchdog. Let's get this problem out in the open for all to see! It only takes 5 minutes to complete the Watchdog online form, and really, what's 5 minutes of your time in comparison to the knowledge that if enough people complain, this need never happen again?

    Hi all!

After getting the run around from head office I emailed rent smart direct and they replied I had obviously been mis sold the product and based on that were happy to cancel and would need the store manager to call them to confirm this.

So I went in today and the manager I spoke to was really great and obviously wanted to help as much as he could.
I came away with infinity being cancelled and taking out new finance over 10 months at 47 quid a month Whereafter I own the product outright.
In total ill be payIng back 513 as a deposit was taken today, which I don't think is bad at all.

So glad this is all sorted and as I say can't thank the manager enough!!!

I went into PC world today to look at paying on my credit or debit card for an iPad. The salesman was trying to sell me this deal and was not at all happy when I got my calculator out. In fact, he couldn't get me out of the shop fast enough when he realised I wasn't going for it.
  • I too got conned into the Infinity deal. I got home and started reading through the paperwork only then to find out I was leasing the iPad! I did a quick search on net and found this post! So glad I did as I didn't open my or should I say their shiny nee iPad until I could contact them about getting out the contract.

I rang RentSmart the next day and advised them that I had been mis-sold the product and was given the impression by Currys that the contract was exactly like a mobile phone contract. Advisor at RentSmart said that as I'd only had the contract a matter of hours, I could go back to the store and tey could cancel the contract there.

So, back to Currys I go with the unopened iPad and explained what RentSmart had said and within a blink of an eye, the Infinity contract was void.

Very quick process and smooth process. Currys said that although Infinity contract says no cooling off period, there is actually a 2 week cooling off period that can be done in store but they opt not to advise of this.

I cannot thank this forum enough for all its help and advice.

its prob for the unlucky one that see no cooling off and decide not to take action about it.

they should really be informing people better about this deal which is not really a deal.

at least things seem to be going better for people that have been taking the contracts back.
