Waters breaking - I used a shower curtain from the pound shop between the mattress and the bed sheet; if you get one that isn't too plasticky it should work well (although my waters didn't break in bed so I'll never know!). The same shower curtain also came in handy for a couple of weeks after the birth when all sorts of bodily fluids (sorry TMI) like blood and breast milk leaked in the night...

Wet wipes vs. cotton wool and water - Believe it or not, but I find it much easier to clean up poo with water and cotton wool; wet wipes tend to just (TMI again...) move it around. The baby cotton wool pads from Boots are great. I think we'll continue with the cotton wool even when LO is old enough for wet wipes, although I use wipes when out and about.

Iron - Floradix really is brilliant; you can also get it as liquid which is supposed to be even better than tablets as your body absorbs it quicker. It's not cheap, but it's worth the money.

Thanks for the tips Nutella - what size cotton wool pads do you use? Do you use the large square ones or the round ones like you'd use for makeup removal? I thought that cotton wool balls probably wouldn't be big enough, but not sure what size pads to get.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

sounds like a gastro virus, my eldest had it this week - started with a temp, then a headache, vomiting and then diarrhoea. He was fine once he had cleared his system though,

make sure you keep your fluids up, even if you bring it straight back again an empty gut will only give you sore tummy muscles.

Don't worry about the baby Rups - when you are sick, normally it is you that suffers, as the body naturally gives any nutrients to the baby, so it won't be losing out. Just try to keep your fluids up as best you can.

I guess it's probably down to personal preference, so you could always get a few different ones and see what you like (that's what we did) - we prefer these: www.boots.com/en/Boots-Baby-Cotton-Pads-Large-approx-80_924006/ Boots have buy one get one half price on baby cotton wool at the moment. The ones you'd use for make up removal may well be OK, and they'd definitely be fine for cleaning wee, although possibly a bit small for a big poo. Personally I find the little balls annoying and we threw away half a pack out of frustration, and the stuff that's one long piece and you pull off what you need tends to have little bits coming off and sticking to baby's bum!...
