I did the counting the ov days and just grabbed dh.. now our s-x life is as dry as a dessert, but saying that im in pain so if he came near me, i wouldnt want it. lol.

i havent read many books at all. only thing i have been reading are those email alerts, that get sent week by week to see how baby is growing and how our body changes, that is it. like mentioned, i think we want to see how our routine pans out as we want one. cant understand those kids too who are awake at stupid hours. i wont allow mine to ne awake late. ruins their timings. my nieces are good as such they get sent to bed at 7.30-8, however my brother and his wife go to all these indian functions where the kids are up so late till midnight. my poor nieces sometime struggle and get grumpy. i would just leave a function and say i have to put kids to bed. weird.

stupid boots website is down. just as i was getting ready to order loads.. been having a weird craving for soap still. eek..

Aida, just bear in mind for the first few weeks if your breastfeeding the baby will need to be fed every 2-3 hours this is to encourage and aid your milk production but also to help get rid of jaundice. A lot of bf babies have jaundice when first born and it only goes away with regular feeding.

Also while I remember, if your wanting to express from the start, ask for some sterile syringes and cups at the hospital, colostrum comes out in teeny tiny amounts but is super rich and would get a bit lost in a bottle and using a pump. If you hand express then you or your partner can syringe feed baby, thats what we did. Also don't be scared if it looks like your not producing much in those first few days, babies tummy is only the size of a small marble and can only take 5-7ml per feed thats about a teaspoon i believe. So as you can imagine the faff of sterilising a bottle and pump for that tiny amount would be a hassle. x
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I remember reading about you and lunaception! We were only TTC for 3 months so didn't really post. I was all for bbt and charting though! I was so worried as my LP was only 10/11 days, but somehow we were lucky :-)

Have looked into baby whisperer and gina ford. Think the baby whisperer may be more for us to start with! Nephys, will make sure DH reads too and we agree on a plan lol!
  • Also to add to what Ikkle said, feeding on demand in those first few days helps encourage your milk to come in :).

We never really pushed a routine, but always made sure we differentiated night and day as I really think that helps establish sleep (although I also believe some babies are just better sleepers than others).

I am super wiped out by third birthday celebrations, and have another two days of it to go :p.

Queen_B I have Aero too! Bought a mint one when we were shopping :)
  • Evening ladies :) first time round a friend gave me gina ford. I read it but found it to be very strict and although I'm organised I felt it was too OTT but can see why it works for some. However, there were 2 things I took from it both which worked for me. 1) have blackout blinds in baby's room, to get them used to day time/ night time. It certainly hasn't stopped my DD sleeping in daylight, luckily she'd sleep on a washing line but is believe it helped in he early days. 2) I started to express as 2 weeks and was well impressed with my 3/4 oz :D in 45 minutes. DH thought I knocked it over! Think he thought I was going to produce half a pint or something. I do however, firmly believe that it did up my milk production so made breast feeding easier through DD growth spurts and meant DH could feed as and when. I used advent bottles and there was no issue, she had her first bottle at 3 weeks.

But, I would echo what everye else says, you need to go with the flow and not try and predetermine anything as no one knows what will be. I firmly believe that if I hadn't come across an 'old school' midwife who firmly, but, nicely told me I was meant to be breast feeding and not nipple feeding, I would have struggled to get DD to latch on. Once she showed me how, it was much easier. that was day 1. I fed DD until she was 11.5 months even after going back to work at 9 months full time and one day she just refused. So she didn't get milk that night. When she refused the following morning again she didn't get any. But that night I gave her cows milk when she refused and only now at nearly 3 is she just starting to not finish her night time cup. Still loves her morning milk.

Sorry that turned into a rather long piece :)

Today I managed to make some meals for the freezer for after baby arrives and also some Chelsea buns. I had a cleaning spurt too and ended up with a shiny fridge :D

    Evening ladies :)

Hectic day here, DH and I spent all morning trekking round car dealerships trying to find a suitable replacement for the car which is being written off. Managed to sort a reasonable car for the budget we wanted, so relieved we got it done before baby appears. Just need to wait on the cheque from the insurers so we can pick it up, but we have a courtesy car for the moment, and DH should be on paternity before we have to give it back, if this baby ever makes an appearance. :o

Feeling so impatient, all my NCT friends have had thei babies and are swapping tips and no-sleep stories on our fb group, I feel really left out and irrationally jealous :o need to get a grip, I'm only 4 days overdue, it could be another 10 days still before I'm even induced!

Marta, no one has really mentioned expressing at all to be honest. I have heard that you shouldn't express in the first 6 weeks (and I think some recommend even longer) but in case baby wouldn't latch or whatever I'd rather pump and feed than feed formula so I've got the pump ready. I know a lot of other ladies previously on this thread ended up having to supplement with formula even if they were breastfeeding (which strikes me as a bit odd, but then I'm not a health professional) so it's clearly possible for *some* babies to alternate bottle and breast with no issues. I will need to have milk out of a bottle by the time baby is about 2 months old as I'm going to a conference, and we'd need to make sure baby will drink from a bottle by then (not something you want to find out on the day!). I'm hoping to do all the feeding myself though, I don't really want to be faffing with expressing and sterilising if it's not necessary. We'll also be going on holiday at just over 3 months and again will have some milk on standby although I'll only be away from baby for about 2 hours at a time then. I'm intending to sterilise by boiling on the hob too, means we don't need to pack the steriliser; but not something you want to do every day either. (I don't like the idea of Milton).
