i got some arnica tabs the other day
As for the room thermometer, we're not going to bother. People have been having babies for years without them, I really don't think it's as important a deal. We have a cold house generally as I don't get this 'rooms must be heated to the same temperature year round' idea - put on a jumper!! And if baby is cold, same applies! Of course I'm not going to freeze / boil it but it's just to be sensible really I think.
I don't have a thermometer for baby either, I'm dithering on that. I do have one that I used to chart my temp so could use that in an emergency except the in-ear ones or forehead ones are probably easier.0 -
I've just looked at that baby grooming kit and personally wouldn't bother with it.
The thermometer is oral only, if you shop around you can get either one of the inner ear thermometers or one which can be used under the armpit etc for a good price. If your baby is poorly and screaming then getting a thermometer under their tongue for an accurate reading is going to be hard.
The nasal aspirator is horrible, babies nostrils are tiny, shoving one of those up to try and suck snot out is not nice. We are using a nasal spray at the minute which I've found much easier and nicer to use.
The brush and comb can be bought for about 99p elsewhere and you don't really need these till bubs is much older anyway. Same with the nail scissors and clippers, you can get them for 99p, I can guarantee you won't want to use them on a newborn baby though. Best way to trim bubs nails as a baby is bite them off, because you will be too scared of nicking them with the clippers etc - their fingers and nails are tiny.
emery boards you can buy mahoosive packs of them for a quid from the pound shop, some people file the nails instead of biting/cutting but these aren't a necessity.
and you won't need a toothbrush for a while either. You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Which ones did you get? I've been looking but most seem homeopathic (which essentially means there's no arnica left in them)

The forehead ones are easier but only read the skin temperature not the real temperature. I never thought much about it but when we were in hospital they recommended in ear or under the armpit thermometers to us. Also you don't feel a babies forehead or hands to see if they are too hot/too cold, you feel their bellies or backs. xYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Hi Ikkle - glad you are feeling better now! Your little man is gorgeous! Did you get sorted on the bottles by the way?
Rups - some baby monitors have temperature displays on them. We have the BT 150 and the temp displays on the monitor. Hipp organic baby club sent us a cardboard thermometer which we kept downstairs. It's not an essential - if baby is cold, you'll know about it! Ikkle is right - check tummy, back of neck and back for temp. Their wee hands and feet can be feel cold but they are fine. Usual rule of thumb is baby in one more layer than you yourself are wearing. unless you are cold-blooded and have my warm blooded child! Lol!
We got our thermometer (Silvercrest) in Lidl and it's actually been pretty good. We did get the Tommee Tippee kit you mentioned Ikkle but only because we got it in Asda one day for £3.33 so i figured it was worth it for that! And you're right - i wouldn't pay £10 for it. We found the nasal aspirator traumatising too but had to use it once or twice. Saline drops are the way to go and safe for littlies!
Marta - I think i'm bigger than you and i also have 12 weeks to go. I'd love to look that neat!0
