  • rups you also get bank holidays so make sure you add those on!

I managed to get longer as we shut down for a week over Christmas and going back part time means you only have to use the hols accrued on full time basis over say three days a week rather than 5. Might just help you leave that little bit earlier as sounds like you could do with the rest.

Only statutory maternity pay here too, figured that when I have two at nursery I'll be even more poor than on maternity leave though!!

I'm having problems getting my work to agree to giving me the bank holidays and also extra days as our office is closed for 8 working days at Christmas. ACAS agrees that I'm entitled as does the senior partner at work (who funnily enough is an employment law solicitor) but another one of the partners is disagreeing  when I left they said they'd discuss it but I still haven't heard. There is another two women in the company that it affects so they're probably hoping I'll give up but I won't. It's an extra three weeks pay at the end if I get it.

Yes, this year flu protects against swine flu too. My MW said the virus in the flu vaccine for pregnant ladies is a dead virus so it will not make you ill.

My MW was amazed that cos i have no belly yet my baby is on the front and she can feel her really well, i said i know ! she kicks me all the time, she is very strong !..

Told her, she said she'll check up :) would they be paid as "full time" holidays... or the part time I'm planning to return on?

At my work it depends on how you plan to return - if you come back part time at 6 months everything shifts to be pro-rated for your new hours, so I would accrue holiday normally for the first 6 months, and then at part time rate for the remainder of my maternity. When I return I have to use them within the normal holiday year rules for my job.

Because I get enhanced maternity pay I don't get bank holidays as extra days (as I get paid for them as normal), but if you're on statutory or a reduced portion of your salary I think you should be able to claim extra days for those as well. If you're going on ML before Christmas, don't forget to add the rest of this year's bank holidays to the leave you take before your maternity kicks in, or you may lose them due to holiday year rules.

If you ask to see your company's ML policy it should be clearly spelled out how they calculate your entitlement etc.

I would print what the directgov website says about those (either in the website or the attached documents), highlight in yellow the important bits about holidays and so on, and send a copy to each partner in the company.

I ask my mw about the whooping cough vaccine but she says my clinic will call me whenever they start the campaign because they still did not have a clue. Still waiting though. With regard to the flu vaccine, she recommended me not to have it because I have some issues with the immune system and previous problems with vaccines, but I guess in normal circumstances it is always better to have it.

I am planning to stay at home for as long as I can, no idea how long that will be, I have Maternity Allowance for 9 months starting pretty much now, so I should end it by the end of June. I am mainly a language teacher, so I might have some private classes here and there, just enough for pocket money but not for anything else... and if I get any. Great those of you who work for sensible companies, my contract ended a day before I could qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay. To be fair to them, they are a branch and it was headquarters in Spain who said they could not pay maternity, with all the crises and different laws, I was not going to push it when I am in short ongoing contracts, I still want the opportunity to go back after the leave. Rups, Could you do something like that? Are you good with crafts? Could you sell on eBay? Do you know any more pregnant women in your neighbourhood? Can you volunteer to babysit in your home at the same time you look after your baby? Can you sew? Could you do homemade leaflets and post them in your neighbourhood for quick repairs?

Oh, morocha, if you need ANY help with Spanish or proofreading or whatever, just send me a message. I am a native language teacher from Spain, with postgrad studies in Latin American Cultural Studies. Whatever you might need, I probably have articles, resources, activities, etc.

  • Hi ladies

Long time no post, I'm now 36 weeks, not sure how that happened!

I had the flu and whooping cough on Monday, one with GP, one with nurse, one thing I would advise is see if they can do them in the same arm. Both my arms were so sore it made sleeping on monday night so difficult, as I obv can't sleep on my tummy and back sleeping doesn't seem to work for me atm. Still a bit sore now but got better sleep last night (despite the best efforts of my daughters).
