was just discussing this with a dad-to-be at work now and he said he had read up on it and insists his wife takes it, because she will produce antibodies for it and these are passed on to the baby who can stay protected till they get their jab at 2 months. flu jab he said no as he recckons it will make her ill.Became Mrs H on the 1st of October 2011!!

My sister works in a children's unit and their bosses have told her to give me strict instructions to have the whooping cough and flu jabs (and the pregnant consultant is her herself!) so I'm acting on instructions!
Unfortunately she also sees the bad side of things a lot so has banned me from even considering a Home birth (regardless of the fact I'm not allowed one!). She had a long list of reasons but decided I just didn't want to know.....
rups how long are you planning on having off? Depending how long you may be able to leave earlier depending on how your holidays work out? I've managed to get it so I have 14 months off :j

The flu jab is made from inactivated (dead) virus and cannot give you flu. You can get some fevery/flu-like symptoms for a few days while your body deals with the vaccine and produces antibodies, but it will be nothing like as bad as full-blown flu. I've had flu a couple of times, and I couldn't get out of bed on my own to go to the loo, imagine trying to look after a baby with that!Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
babymonster, I agree that medical people are the most neurotic about these things normally! We have one in the family too.0

wow 14 months.. my maternity pay is sooo cr-p, that i should be returning earlier, however DH has a good job so if i decide to stay for a year, i can (that is the maximum we can take) and yes i get my 26 holidays next year so can add those on? so around 13 months.. i want to def try and take the whole year even though my pay will be cut off. i wil have to find a way of earning money as this sounds silly but i cant bring myself to be solely dependent on DH.Became Mrs H on the 1st of October 2011!!

I've just been for my flu vaccine and my whooping cough one. Like LittleMoog I had flu a couple of years ago and it was awful. My DS had to go to his grandparents as I couldn't look after him so I'd much rather have the jab. I also think the risks of whooping cough are far greater than having the vaccine.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -

Thanks for popping me on the list LittleMoog. Was trying to find the latest one
I wasn't told about the whooping cough one at my last appointment so I'll wait and see if they do at the next one.
Do you still earn holidays while on leave? My boss has told me no. I'm off til the last week of September anyway and will only be coming back part time as from what I've worked out, I'll be better off than trying to pay child care. Which puts me worse off than being on leave but I'll sort something by then.0
