I thought it would make you worry Rups lol, honestly you will know if it's bad. Generally, when pregnant you will have an itchy bump because it's the skin stretching, E45 really helps with that or a bath in Aqueous cream. My itching is all over though, literally everywhere, the soles of my feet, palms of my hands, my forearms are really bad and my hands are covered, my back is really rough and all round the side of bump, backs of my knees at the fronts are all rashy too, and another characteristic is that its always worse at night, so if you're sleeping fine there is nothing to worry about. It goes away once bubba arrives but unfortunately theres nothing they can do to stop it whilst preg, luckily my ursodeoxycholic acid tablets have calmed it down a bit but it's still there and uncomfortable, so happy I finished work when I did!
Don't panic, honest! Spend your time looking at buggies! Mothercare have a maxi cosi cabriofix car seat for £99 atm which is a bit of a bargain and really light x

Marta: I think it's just 8 glasses of liquid, but you shouldn't have too much caffeine as it cancels out some of the benefits as it's a diuretic, although the medical advice on this always varies. I get nowhere near 8 glasses but find I do need to drink more lately. I find manchester water tastes lovely, not sure why yours tastes like tap water? I'm trying to keep something wet on my desk to encourage me to drink up, if it's there I tend to. I'm pretty sick of water though, am trying not to drink caffiene (no caffienated coffee at all, and only small amounts of tea) and my usual herbal tea gives me an acidic throat. I did try my first mug of raspberry leaf this morning though.
I've tried the hypnobirthing cds but keep falling asleep. I made it 10mins into the birth one two nights back. I think I need to do it when actually awake at least once.
I have a gym ball which I'm sitting on at work (and have been loaned one for home). It is supposed to be better for your posture, baby's positioning, and possibly good if you have lower back pain. I got mine largely because I tend to sit cross legged on my office chair which is supposed to be bad in pregnancy (midwife from 2 appointments back told me off for crossing my ankles on the bed when she measured my bump, so I've been a bit paranoid since). Once you're in labour you can bounce on it or lean on it and all sorts of things to try get comfy.
mlbarrett - I'd book the viva in before, except what happens if baby arrives early?
on the obstetric cholestasis thing, I have a friend (older) who had this when pregnant with twins, I don't think they were nearly as bothered thenby it (it was just the itching that drove her mad!). Why are they so bothered about it - the first google page I got to seemed to think there was slightly increased risk of stillbirth, which is why they used to induce, but it seems the jury's out on the complications?0 -
cherrydrop, I never heard of that obstetric cholestasis thing, googling it now to find out
I am glad they managed to find you and you are on treatment now. All the best wishes!! That reminds me that it is very important to check that hospitals and GPs have the right numbers and addresses. So they told you to eat...can you have cake?
I'd never heard of it either, I didn't realise itching would have anything to do with pregnancy but it's where my liver isnt functioning properly and all the gross bile salts are floating around making their way to the skin. Google will tell you all and in great detail, lol.
Yes, definately make sure they have the right contact details otherwise it could end up making things 10x worse like it did for me!
The sister said fruit and cereal and juice, i'm currently munching through some carrot sticks. I have mince pies in the cupboard calling out to me though.0 -

Savage- I've done a lot of research on it as well since it being confirmed. I'm on consultant care due to my high BMI and Flump is measuring on the 97th centile so i'm not sure if that has influenced the early induction thing as well, also had reduced FM's at Friday's appointment, so it may be a lot of contributing factors in my case? Doctor told me that it can also lead to premature labour as well, but to be honest I would prefer that to induction as at least Flump would be making his own way out then being forced iykwim? It's funny as the same day as my consultant appt on Wednesday, I had anaesthetist appt and was telling her I wanted as little intervention as possible but now i'm being told i'll need to be induced which could lead to further intervention. Nothing ever goes to plan, eh?0

Sorry to say this ladies... but what on earth are your midwives doing?? Mine told me about obstetric cholestasis, not in any great detail to be fair, but she did mention excessive itching, particularly of the hands and feet, as something to be aware of and to seek help immediately. At my booking-in appt and on the odd occasion afterwards she talked me through the 'things to not ignore' list and OC was one of them. Yours should be doing the same, IMO"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
fluff, never heard the medical term for it either, but looking it up online it's what my friend had (she explained it to me so it's definitley that, the itching and the bile - and the liver compression due to the twins). No midwife has mentioned anything. In fact, I haven't been told of anything to go find emergency assistance for except probably bleeding or labour and I'm not sure even that was spelt out!0

Ah, OK, so in your case perhaps there are aggravating factors. I guess they first want to check all is OK when something like this is dagnosed, then if the rest of the things are all 'normal' perhaps they back off a bit.0 -
Fluff- I am really upset with my midwife and my GP. I had really dark urine at my GP appt and he just told me to drink more even though I pointed out my itching and poor sleep, he also never explained what ketones meant (maybe i'm thick but I do need things pointing out to me)- just asked if i'd had lunch and when I said yes, shrugged it off!
My midwife never said anything regarding anything to look out for just swelling or bleeding. I've had a few down days thinking I should have pointed it out earlier and worried i'd be looked at as a bad mum because i've put my baby at risk, but I think if i'd been made aware of things to look out for I would have acted on it earlier.
I've now turned into the annoying woman who MDAU for anything now. Better to be safe then sorry, I say.0
