  • I'm just so excited to meet the bean and bored of waiting now. I'm so impatient :o

Need to get on with sorting our room out so we can move the furniture round. Am forcing myself to get rid of a load of clothes (have had waaaay to many clothes for waaay to long :o), I need to have less clutter around me. Have been trying to sell stuff, but getting to the stage where it might just all end up going to the charity shop.

  • I have been trying to ebay stuff, and some things have sold, but a lot hasn't. From a moneysaving /debt point of view I know I should keep trying, but I'm really starting to feel like I just need to let it go and get on with trying create a more clutter free and organised environment :o

Hi LittleMoog. I BF DD until 7.5 months, but not without the usual problems. My friend is now BF her 10 day old and asked for help and a few things came flooding back to me that seemed to help her and none of the midwives have told her:

To get a good position for feeding, a breast feeding pillow really helps. In the hospital ask if you can borrow one or bring your own (they don't usually offer, but my hospital had them).

BF is "feeding on demand". My friend was trying to feed her baby every 4 hrs and no one thought to tell her that just doesn't usually work with BF (at least in the first month).

BF babies often "cluster feed" in the evening. My DD would feed constantly from 7pm until 10/11 pm. Just go with it. Get comfortable on the sofa (with your BF pillow!) and watch TV. It often means baby will do a longer stretch at night.

Get a nipple shield for the times that your nips just can't face another feed, but try not to use all the time as baby might reject the nipple without it.

For the first 24 hrs a newborn only needs 7ml (just over a teaspoon) of colostrum. In the next 24 hours they need just 14ml. So don't stress that they aren't getting enough. See this link.

Thanks, this is really useful :) I have a BF pillow already, and I'm saving up good telly on the sky box in preparation! ;)
