I wouldn't sexymouse but then I'm one of those people who try to follow all the guidelines because I'm too scared!
Re: stretpsils - sorry Rups but I'm pretty sure we can't have them or Halls/Soothers, anything like that. I know people have mentioned hot water with lemon and honey before. As far as I know this is all we can have. If you're just struggling a bit, try to sip it slowly or sip anything throughout the day and that should help (at least I find that it does!).

I've got a pack of Halls soothers in my desk, just checked the label. They're described as sweets, and there's nothing on there about pregnant ladies, so I'd be happy to use them if I had a sore throat . Same with tunes/lockets and the basic strepsils. If in doubt Rups, pop into a pharmacy and ask what would be safe to use.

  • You're going to have a VERY long two months if you're assuming baby is going to come at 36 weeks...!
Plus, if we apply fluff's stats, you may have an extra week or two on top of that!

I think this could potentially be an area where we all have to agree to disagree! I had to go to the pharmacy early in my pregnancy as I was full of a cold, temperature, sneezing, coughing, the full works. The only 2 things pharmacist told me I could have was a specific cough medicine, which she told me to use only if I really needed to, and vick vapour rub (sp?) applied to my chest. I thought halls/soothers etc would be ok (I used to have them as sweets when I was young!) but she told me they weren't.

  • Sexymouse I wouldn't risk sleeping in the room hun, just to be on the safe side, but that's just my opinion! x

Re food stuff, I used to love green tea and water before I got pregnant but went off them in the first trimester (along with all other foods and drinks!) Have recently had two weeks of just wanting to drink cherry pepsi max and nothing else, in the last few days I have only been able to drink water with a ton of ice in it! Still not right with squash either - can drink vimto squash but no others! As for food, in the last week I seem to be able to only stomach stodgy stuff - the same foods that I wanted when I was ill in the first trimester. So for lunch each day I have been having white bread cottage cheese sandwiches with crisps! I also fancy things like potato croquettes and pasties; can't face my fav's of curries and pizzas at the mo, but looking forward to having them next week after baby has arrived! I am also really looking forward to eating goats cheese again - I have missed that so much! The only downside is that as I plan to breastfeed, I still can't have a tipple! To be honest, I wasn't a big drinker before but I think it is just the principle of it - I know I CAN'T have a drink which makes me WANT it! Lol.

haha, ditto, asked pharmacist and was told lockets/strepsils (non-medicated ones) were fine, and paracetamol, but warned off lemsip/cold&flu remedies as they contain decongestant as well as paracetamol. Be nice if they could come up with one set of guidance and stick to it! ;)

You can have Halls Soothers as they aren't medicated at all, but you can't have Halls as they are x

I think you can have lemsip if it's paracetamol only, but most also contain some sort of decongestant (phenylephrine) as well and some have caffeine (to increase rate paracetamol kicks in).

You can still drink hun whilst breastfeeding.

The NHS Birth to 5 years book says:

When you breastfeed, you are giving your baby the best possible start in life. It's very unlikely that having an occasional drink will harm you or your baby. However, we do know that alcohol passes through to the baby in very small amounts. So when breastfeeding it is sensible to drink no more than one or two units once or twice a week.

If you have drunk more than one or two units, it is worth remembering that the level of alcohol in your breastmilk reduces in the same way as it does in the rest of your body - so waiting an hour or more will reduce the amount of alcohol your baby gets through your breastmilk.

It is not safe to get drunk when caring for your baby whether you are breastfeeding or formula feeding.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
