savage, I assume we are talking about the same hospital, in that documentary 4 out of 6 episodes were in St Mary's (Manchester). The other two were around the North West, but I cannot remember where! If that is the hospital you are going, then yes, you just go any Saturday or Sunday at 2pm and the midwife will be downstairs in reception, you sign her list of people and done. It is good, you get to see part of the ward, they show you the entrances, they explain where to park, etc. There is a carpark behind the hospital, but they said that if you are in labour you can park for free in the main door for half an hour or so, so whoever takes you there has time to go with you to the triage desk and then go to the car park behind, in case you need to be rushed in. Otherwise, the car park is just 2 minute walk to the main entrance. If you are walking, it does not matter though! Since the renovations and the new building, it is quite nice. You can go at any time, as I mentioned, I went very very early, I barely had a bump! But I wanted to make sure I liked the hospital, so I could ask for another if I was not happy, but I did like it. I want to go again to make sure I know where to go and all that.

Rups, I do not know, they are medicated, I would assume you can have any menthol/eucalyptus stuff, but not sure about Strepsils, have you still got the paper with the instructions inside? On the board... what do you mean 10 weeks?? It cannot be, can it? It says on your sig you are due around Christmas, wouldn't that make it 13+ weeks? I am panicking now, I am due two weeks before you, it cannot be that soon!! Baby bedroom is still storage bedroom!! *panic mode*

dizsie, fluffnutter lol at the stats. At least I get one thing from all that: it will be very rare for me to have the baby on the due date, chances are that she will be early or late and according to stats, she might be off by a few days. So now I can reply to my parents and say the due date means nothing. I cannot really give them a 4 day time frame when she will be born for them to attend labour!

On the funny wee smell, mine is like apple juice sweet. I think I fail to drink enough, I keep forgetting, I have alarms set up to remind me, but I mostly drink decaff tea/coffee and juice, with some glasses of water I force down myself. I do not drink enough water on its own, which is not good because it actually aggravates water retention, which I have all over!!

I was concerned because I read that if it was sweet could be gestational diabetes, if it was ammonia like could be just not enough water... but all my urine tests are fine, so I think it is not enough water + the kind of food/drink I have. I always mention it when I go to the mw, they always do a test and it is always ok. Try to drink more water for a few days and see if that brings the smell down (thus, you just need to drink more water), it did for me, I just find it difficult to keep up! :(

I think I fancy a donner kebab.... I might go out and buy one for lunch. :D

What is a normal BMI when pregnant? They weighed me and calculated mine for the first time since being pregnant and I'd gone up from 21 at booking to 26, so that sounds high to me but I don't really know.

I didn't think they were supposed to recalculate BMI after the start of pregancy, as the equation they use doesn't apply to pregnany women. FYI, 21 is in the middle of the normal range (18-25) abd 26 is just in the overweight zone (25-30), but seeing as you're 8 months pregant I really wouldn't worry about it! :rotfl:

oh really? i think right at the beginning of the pregnancy, i took honey and lemon ones. oops.. :)

i just find my throat so sore and grated. yuck.. i wanted to keep it moist. i might get something else then.. my minds gone blank. what sort of sucky sweets?

I think strepsils are fine as long as it's just the basic ones - the ones with anaesthetic/antiseptic I'd probably avoid, but you could check the pack. Could you get some Hall's soothers? they're just sweets really, but designed for sore throats. Or some plain boiled sweets - I like glacier mints when I have a sore throat. Otherwise, keep sipping hot lemon or blackcurrant squash?

cravings, weirdly enough, I have not had any proper ones, nor I have gone off any food, had morning sickness or heartburn. I know I am pregnant because my belly grows and grows, I get stretch marks, I have ballooned and put like 2-3 sizes everywhere, and I am very tired. I am not having more mood swings than before, I think they were far worse with my period, when I was also more sensitive than now, I expected a lot more during the pregnancy, like a permanent premenstrual mood... so far, so good, I still have almost three months to go, but I hope they stay like that. Instead of cravings, for me it has been more like "I quite fancy today" /"I do not really fancy today" thing. If I go with that, then:

Fancy more: Fresh lemonade, fish, seafood, "spongey" desserts, salty snacks such as crisps, doughnuts and KFC
Not fancy that much: any chocolate (other than in a fudge cake), olives (I used to eat loads)
Smells that do not agree with me: curry spices, baby wipes, cleaning products

Thanks LittleMoog, I won't worry too much about the BMI then! I was quite annoyed they weighed me as I didn't want to know my weight at all until afterwards, but the newbie student midwife was desperate to have a go at calculating my BMI lol.

I must be the only one, but I don't think I've ever tried to smell my wee. Maybe I should have a go next time :rotfl:

    Cravings:
I generally want anything that's unhealthy, but these are my foods I can't go without - Bounty bars, lemonade, Nestle Clusters cereal, roast potatoes, pizza, french stick.
Can't stand - Meat (with the exception of burgers or takeaway food), fish.
    Miss - McFlurry
    Smells I hate - Meat/fish cooking, petrol.

MMM - No wonder you got annoyed. I would lie in bed if I didn't have the school run, what's the point in getting up and out if you don't have to.

shery - hope it doesn't turn out to pre-eclampsia, but at least you know they are keeping a close eye on you whatever happens.

AFM, I've got my baby washing drying, but now I feel at a loose end because I'm almost ready. Oh, and I'm overeating again today. 3 bowls of cereal down already. I think baby must just really want the milk and calcium as I don't eat cereal at all when not pregnant.

I had the student mw doing my examinations yesterday, never had anyone take so long to pump up a blood pressure cuff :rotfl: She also kept apologising while palpating my stomach, but it was only about half as hard as the consultant had just done it. Bless!
