Sorry, snowbean, don't give up, though. It might just be baby brain getting in the way and making things extra-difficult for you. You will pass it, you'll see. Many people have several attempts before passing, do not feel you are an idiot, sometimes it is al down to luck, the test you had, how well you felt that day, lots of things! Next time it will work for you :)

Oh, bikelesschick, I meant here, in our list. I have updated my post because the question was confusing. I meant how many days between the EDD and the actual day of labour, if it happened at any other time than at the EDD. Just curious about what the average is, going over, going under, being spot on, etc. I might have a look at previous lists and check. Thanks!

dates are a funny thing, martafdz. im sat here now officially two days late. thats what the scan says... however, by the ovulation dates im due today, and by my cycle date im due friday! my last baby was a day later than the scan EDD, but on the exact day due as worked out from my cycle.

  • snowbean don't beat yourself up hun, it's just one of those things and I am sure you will pass next time.

Rups as others have said, get the advice from your antenatal classes re pain relief prior to writing a birth plan. Originally, I wanted all available drugs but now knowing what effect some of these have on the baby and their instincts once they are born (and therefore possible effects on breastfeeding) I really do not want pethidin. I don't want an epidural either as the thought of not being able to move for several hours is something that I cannot bear.

Had the midwife round this am; I'm not booked for an induction next Monday. baby is firmly engaged, heartbeat good he is just being difficult. Midwife went to do a sweep but although my cervix is soft it is not open enough. I know it is only five days away but even so, I am still upset by it all! At least I know one way or another that the end is in sight. But if I am induced it will mean that I cannot get into the birthing pool (which I wanted to do to help with pain relief and speed up labour) as they will be monitoring baby throughout. It also means that the pain intensity will be more because labour will not be gradual but will be more instant so I am either going to have to scream the place down or resort to drugs that I don't want. Really, really unhappy about it all, but there is nothing that I can do so will just have to hope that baby decides to put in an appearance before next Monday.

Had another stupid text today asking me if baby is here. NOOOOOOO! Honestly, I know I have said it before but the way that pregnant women suddenly seem to become fair game for any comment and remark really annoys me. My OH's Dad popped round at the weekend and because I had had a really bad nights sleep I was napping on the sofa. As soon as he walked through the door and saw me he started laughing! I don't think he meant it in a nasty way but more in a knowing way (he has four kids) but even so it really annoyed me and I didn't even open my eyes cos I would have gone off on one if I had of done! It really does annoy me that people think it's ok to laugh and make jokes about being overdue - we have a hard enough time of it being pregnant anyway without that! Sorry, that turned into a bit of rant and I didn't mean it to, lol!

got my beautiful tortie snuggled up to me at the mo so she is cheering me up a bit. Going to have a look on the net now for some more Christmas presents to try and distract me for a bit. Hugs to all.

MMM I had my sweep and was told that my cervix was only just opening and that I would probably have to have another sweep as it was unlikely to do anything. This was on the Monday and baby was born Weds eve so don't be too disheartened!

Sorry, haven't read back through all the posts but congrats to the new mummies and labour vibes to the boldies.

My little lady was born last Wednesday and we finally were discharged from hospital last night as she ended up in special care. She had a few problems but they seem to have been resolved now though.

Don't think I'm going to write my birth story as it was pretty awful so would rather just forget it! Am only now just starting to move about a bit more as I had forceps and ended up with a lot of stitches which have caused considerable pain.

Miss Monkey Moo, is it worth trying all the old wives tales to avoid being induced if you can? Can't hurt (well, eating a whole uncooked unmushed pineapple core might hurt your tongue a bit!)...how far over are you on Monday?

    Marta,

My experience of when first babies arrive is just from myself and my school friends. Out of 5 of us that have remained very close, we have all had our first babies within the last 3 years. In Northern Ireland they induce at 10 days over. When the babies arrived were:

    1) 11 days over induction
    2) 11 days over induction (me!)
    3) 10 days early
    4) 9 days over
    5) 9 days over (induction earlier due to high BP)

    But you never know!
