yes i suppose if you are feeding continuously then the milk will be there no? the midwife said it dries up if you dont feed baby enough on the breast.

There should be a small bottle, a medela one, that comes with the pump. You then attach that, pump in to there. I just then transferred it into freezer bags and labelled it and froze it until I wanted to use it.
    .....

Jonno, thank you. I want to use a breast pump as I want my OH to feed the little one as well.

So it is OK to buy a second hand pump or I should buy a brand new one?

RHJ you are a very powerful woman. Congratulation again for your "little" bundle of joy.

Can I ask an embarrassing question? :o

I probably won't breastfeed due to health reasons (but will still try and get the first feed for baby to be breast to get the first lot of goodness into him) but can those with inverted nipples actually breastfeed like normal mums? :o I've always had inverted nipples and they haven't popped out with pregnancy (something which can apparently happen).

if you believe the pro-breastfeeding crowd, practically any breast can breastfeed, only a very very small minority can't. I have two breastfeeding books lurking in my to-read pile, will see what they say!

Yes hun, just might need to express via hand/pump a little before hand to draw the nipples out or you can buy a little plastic thing called a nipplette to help x
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

There's no reason why you can't buy a 2nd hand pump. Some people just sterilise it before using it, others replace some parts. Personally Im buying brand new but then Im really funny with buying some things 2nd hand. It's completely up to you!

Kitten, congrats! I'm so happy for you! Very well done!

  • Congratulations Kitten
  • Kitten huge congratulations to you and hubby!! So happy for you. You must be over the moon!

LadyM it's completely up to you how you feed your baby. A few of my friends have tried bf and then stopped after a day or so and have been made to feel guilty by midwives etc for stopping, you've got to do what's right for you too do don't be bullied into thinking otherwise. I was in hospital for 4/5 days and on bed rest for the first 1/2 days so midwives helped me to hand express the first milk. Literally only 2mls came out. So if do have a section and are in a few days they could help with that until you get home so baby gets the colostrum? Baby took a while to learn how to latch so I fed him with the syringe so he didn't miss out.
I would chat to your dr/pharmacist about if this is possible. One of my meds was safe in pregnancy but can cause toxicity through breastmilk.

Hi to everyone else, yes I'm still lurking on here. Haven't been brave enough to go across to the newborn thread yet. Technically I should have had two more weeks of pregnancy left ;)

Bubs is doing great, just done the 4am feed and he's decided it's wide awake time, just lying there looking around. hopefully he'll drop off soon. This is the downside to breast feeding, daddy cannot do it. Can't believe he's nine days old, saying that it's like he's always been here now. Will try and write my birth story soon too.

Sending labour vibes to those needing them and hugs to those needing them too xx

  • Morning all!

Kitten many congrats to you, I am so thrilled and pleased! I have been scanning the posts daily waiting to see how you are getting on! x

Not much to say today really, off out with my BF in a mo as her son had an operation recently and he needs to go and have a checkup. Then meant to be at parents for lunch - I am meant to be resting up but have seen people every day this week so far and have plans for tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday! It's good in a lot of ways cos it means I am not sitting around getting bored, but by the time the evening rolls round I am very tired. OH has been a LOT better over the last few days - think he realises that he had been a bit unreasonable towards me! Still don't really want to go out for dinner this Sunday thouhg, but will see how I feel on the day.

Got a fab swinging crib on ebay last night - need to go and pick that up this afternoon. Got it for £12.50 so very pleased. Just need to to get some bedding for it (although have sheets for the cotbed so can use those) and will prob get a new mattress for it too. OH's stepmum asked me to make a list of things that we want last night cos she said that the family all want to buy us stuff and we might as well have stuff that we want and need rather than things that we already have or will be of no use to us. I thought that was lovely of her, but I feel a bit weird and maybe a bit cheeky asking for particular things!

Also searching for a changing bag now - was going to just use the boots one but it really is quite small so I am not sure how practical it is really going to be. Got my heart set on a Skip Hop bag but they are very expensive! Going to do a quick search to see what I can find!

RJH thanks for the birth story and love the name! Myles was actually on our shortlist! I have my heart set on a particular name now though - OH was keen on it but for some reason has started dithering in the last week, so going to have to work on him I think! Have told a few of my friends the name that we had chosen and they all think it is perfect, so I am hoping OH will come round!

    Hugs to all X
  • Big Recommendation Coming Up:

I know I have recommended this lady before but I just want you all to know about her as she is amazing…her work is really good and she charges such a good price.

Stacey Clarke @ She’s Sew Unique www.shessewunique.co.uk/ (she has a facebook page too which has so many pictures on!)

She has already hand made me a custom cot bed set (1 x Cot Bumper & 1 x Quilt) and 1 x Crib Bumper and a Taggy Blanket for just £75 inc P&P… a cotbed set from Disney store, Mamas & Papas etc alone costs more that alone without the P&P and the Crib Bumpers and Tag Blanket!!!

    I have now just ordered:
    • An adult man red fleece all in one (with feet) with easy access to pee. Embroidered in swirly gold (or white) on the chest 'Daddy B' for £25 inc p&p
    • A matching Baby 0-3 month red fleece all in one (with feet) Embroidered in swirly gold (or white) on the chest 'Baby B' £12 inc p&p
    • A Tag Comfort Blanket: Patched from Fabric 180 (Cars) and the a Complimentary colour satin. Backed with Red or Baby Blue Fleece with Red & Baby Blue ribbons round the edge as tags. Embroidered with a name and D.O.B for my friends newborn £6 plus £1.50 P&P
    • A Pad & Crayon Holder: Fabric 172 (Princesses) Embroidered in Pink to say ‘FRIENDS CHILDS NAME’ ‘Big Sister’ for £10 plus £1.50 P&P
    • And a cotbed set (quilt and bumpers) made from fabric 175 treasure map with a white, cream or powder blue fleece back. £45 no extra p&p (This is for my parents house)

Total she is charging me is just £101 inc all the postage for the above which I think is an amazing price for what I have asked for and I wouldn’t be able to buy such quality stuff in the shops for less than £180 (I already looked about and nothing was as good as what she makes either!)

I promise that I do not know her personally but she was recommended by a friend, who found her through a friend…you know how it goes….

I just love her stuff and I want all you ladies to have a look and consider it before you part with your hard earned cash on something that is just ok! (Obviously if you got yours super cheap or a freebie this might seem a lot to part with but I have saved a good £150 by using her based on what I was going to buy before!)

    Dizsie (28+6)

P.s I am going to post this on <12 weeks board too so sorry if you read it twice because you still lurk on there!
